You can get the resin people make jewellery out of etc but i have a resin glue pen from poundland i used to repair a mug handle last week... it has two tubes and you push it out and mix it and apply with a spatula so i was thinking you could put the pieces that are largest in place, perhaps some tape on the inside and paste the resin over it all on the outside and it would fill the gaps? by doing it on the outside wouldnt give the hammy an "edge" to chew at either. I filled a small corner chew hold with stormsure glue also but as much smaller hole

So sorry you’re not well at the moment x Broken things always upset me when I’m not well - just looking at them. Maybe it can wait till you’re feeling a bit better (Chuck a blanket over it!).

that is exactly how i felt Serendipity, when I am worse than normal anything going wrong is a little bit more stressful/ upsetting than normal 😀
My friend came and picked it all up and is hoping to sort it all out today, fjngers xd. She is going with the soldering iron method.

Woo hoo, thanks everyone. So my friend managed to fix one part with a soldering iron and the pieces that I manged to rescue plus added extra bits from an old plastic bin I had used for a hedgehog hide that had broken and had been waiting to go the tip.

The other part she managed to partly fix in the same way but was left with a hole right on the corner.

I told her about amethysts bargain buy of the epoxy resin, so off she went to poundland and she thinks it has worked. Great tip Amethyst, Thanks.

It doesn't look that pretty but it works and is safe.

So now we just have to wait 72 hours for the resin to be cured and fingers crossed if it has all worked Suki can go to her new furever home.

Great job! Your friend's done really well to fix it and the repairs can be easily covered with a nice stick on design or decorative duck tape.

Final update from my friend:

I would recommend the resin...absolute bargain. You need to follow the instructions on poundland website though as you don't get full instructions with the tube.
Sounds daft but the reason my first mix wasnt good is that you have to stand the syringes on their end pointing up so that you can get rid of any sure bubbles...that way you get equal amounts or resin and hardener. Then mix thoroughly.

She also used some very fine wet and dry sandpaper which you would use on cars to create a very smooth finish. Nothing for hamsters to chew on.

Amazing! That resin tip from Amethyst was very helpful and you have a clever friend I am very impressed - I would have given up lol. I was upset for ages about a broken cage base after we moved - but still had the bars. Eventually about 18 months later I managed to buy a base on its own that fitted - for £12! But it was a lot of waiting.

Amethysts tip saved the day. I think my friend was ready to give up when left with that hole and I reminded her of what Amethyst had said, so off she went to poundland. If that hadn't worked she was going to call it a day.

I think my friend worked quite hard at it to get it this good.

I feel you Serendipity. I sold my first savic plaza cage because the base was broken when delivered. I was too ill to fix it myself, I knew in theory how to do it, but too ill to give it a go or track down a soldering iron.

Your friend has done really well to fix! Great job and a great home for little Suki.

Is your friend going to cover the repairs with something decorative? I'd love to see that as well .

Will definitely keep Amethyst's resin tip in mind.
