Default suitable house for Campbells?

Hi

After extensive research I have settled on either one or a pair of Campbell Hamsters - probably more likely that I have one as I wouldn't have space for two cages if they fought. Please can you recommend suitable houses that aren't too big? two or three storeys high is ok but not too wide! I've seen some lovely ones but they are massive.

thanks

Cambells are really not climbers and a lot of levels would not be safe for them. I would suggest a tank type cage such as the FOP Bernie lux, The Dunu mini or Multy, the Rydon Millhouse or similar. Have a look in the cage review section.

the imac fanatsy would be great if you don't have much room. Plus you could have a pair and just split up the imac into two sections for each of them (if you had the extension)
If not yh not a really high cage as this can be dangerous but theres plenty of bargains on ebay so just see what you can find if you don't want to spend much money

Great! Thats what I have for my dwarfie and he loves it. He makes his nest right at the back under the shelf! It took him a little while to get used to the ramp though, at first he would scramble up and then just chuck himself off the ledge! He soon got the idea though! One bad thing is that the wheel that comes with it is useless it drags on the floor and does not spin freely - You can unattach it easliy and take off the plastic bit it attaches to and get a silent spinner, or Wodent wheel instead. Its really easy to clean too!

Hi Hope!

yeah i thought the wheel was pathetic when i set it up last night lol! At first it wouldn't turn at all until my fiance pointed out the makers had attached it the wrong way round! It spins freely now but as you say, it's very low.

Going to get some accessories when i pick up my hammie tomorrow, thinking a log to hide in and another toy. Saved an empty loo roll too

Good!! I'm so excited for you! I love the thrill of getting a new ham

I found that when I got my substrate in the wheel wouldn't turn at all. I can recommend the regular size silent spinner for dwarfies - they spin really freely and are very quiet! (although boris only ever does a couple of runs on his andthen gets off - he is a lazy ham!)

Toilet roll tubes are great and any type of cardboard box they love too. I brought Boris a lovely Sputnik - the domed shaped ones that hang from the roof - he didn't go near it, not interested, he prefers an old square tissue box! He is cheap and easy to please!

Oh and be carefull with the logs with holes in at p@h (if thats where you are going for toys) as the holes are way too small even for a dwarf, Boris was fine when I first got him but he quickly grew out of it and he only realised one day when he got stuck in it!

It was quite funny actually! It was in the bath thankfully so I was close at hand if he was in trouble. When he realised he was too big to get out he tried to do a U Turn and couldn't! So he had to sort of come out backwards, watching his little (well, not so little) bum wiggle out was very funny! He wont go near the thing now as he is scared! Keeping it for my meeces though! lol!
