Default Broken Savic plaza

So my new Savic plaza cage arrived and the lid is broken at one corner. I am just wondering if I can fix it as it would be a pain to return and I think PAH are now out of stock.

For anyone who has the cage it arrives with the lid put together - the bars in a frame. Each section of the top frame is held together with a small corner piece with a peg each side that pushes into the long pieces of frame. On one corner one of the pegs has broken off. So the frame doesn’t hold together.

Annoying as I only need one little corner piece but doubt it would be supplied separately.

So options may be - try and glue the corner piece on (not sure which glue). Or try and make a new corner piece with a peg out of wood or something.

Any ideas?

How about a small dowel? If you do keep,it, make sure you get some money back. My first savic plaza came with a broken base, they sent me a new one and let me keep the broken one.

Thanks Luna. Yes I wondered about a dowel just as I was falling asleep . Did you get yours from PAH? I did wonder about just asking them for a new part but didn’t thing they would supply it from a whole new cage and would just swap the cages over or something. Also they now have none in stock so it could take ages. But worth contacting them yes. Some money back would help! The box was full of what looked like tiny bits of black so I assume that was the broken peg. If so the fragments were tiny so it must have had quite a bash!

How annoying for you Serendipity. I remember when my barney arrived with a broken corner it just takes the fun away from the arrival of a new cage. If you do try and get some money back, attaching a photo of the bit all in pieces should help. I did that with the barney and got some of the cost refunded.

Yes I did get mine from PAH, and when i said they sent me a new one, i meant the whole thing.not just a new base. They really are badly protected. So many of them seem to get broken.

Pets at Home might be able to order the spare part for you from Savic.

The handle of my Mickey 2XL broke very soon after it arrived and Savic kindly set me another set, though were at pains to stress they usually only supply spare parts wholesale.

Thank you all. Sushi that is worth knowing. I think Savic are a very good company. I still have a contact there after asking them to make a 100cm Hamster Heaven . They said they were thinking of it and the result was the Savic plaza. I wrote again recently asking if they could a version 2 with a wider door . So it’s as wide to the cage as the HH door is in proportion to the cage. Reply was just that they would pass the request on to the design team but we can hope!

Yes Luna it is not that well packaged - quite a small box really. There was a bit of padding in but clearly not enough. I have seen other links where it has broken at that same point.

So I messaged PAH and they were very apologetic and said someone would contact me by email and also confirmed they didn’t have any more in stock. I notice Amazon sells it now but at a higher price (about £100!).

So I’ll see what they suggest and if no joy then yes maybe Savic would send me the spare part

So PAH emailed me and would have replaced it but out of stock. Offered me a different cage but I said no thanks I only wanted that cage. So I’ve ordered it from Amazon, and will return the one to PAH. Annoying as the cage will have cost an extra £25! Although if I’m lucky both will be damaged, I can get one full cage from all the parts and get a refund for both lol. I doubt that will happen.

So this has been a bit of a faff but there is no real rush to move Pickle. PAH want the cage returning for a refund. New cage arrived from Amazon (so it has cost me £100 instead of £75!). As I had already built the PAH cage I just took the new lid from the Amazon box and sending the new cage and broken lid back to PAH. But at least I have an intact built cage now. Still need to do some plastikoting so won’t move him till everything is done.

A lot of faffing about and extra cost but I bet you forget all about it when you see your hamster enjoying their new cage
