Exclamation Bin cage extension suitable?

Hi!

I recently finally got my new Syrian hamster Arlo 2 days ago, and before his arrival i ordered a bin and made him a bin cage to live in, under the assumption the cage was 650 square inches, however when i set him up in his new home, i thought it seemed small and i was correct as the cage has only 410 square inches when i measured it. I'm feeling horrible that i've put him in too small a cage, and theres a further issue as larger bins than the one i have really aren't very available in my area at all. I have another smaller bin that has around 140 square inches floor space that i was thinking of attatching to arlos current cage to up the space for him. Will that do him any good and would it be suitable? or will I just have to do a thorough search for a bigger all in one bin? Thankyou for any help in advance!

Unfortunately attaching another bin won’t up the floor space. Hamsters need 450sqin of unbroken floor space. Until you can get a new bin, it would help to attach the other. You could use some PVC pipe to connect, but make sure it is secure so the little guy can’t escape. I think the best option would be buying a new bin altogether. I think on Amazon they sell 50g bins which is what I have my Syrian in and it’s about 850sqin.

I agree joining bins doesn’t really work as they do need that one continuous space, the bin you have should be ok for a short while at least if he’s a baby so I would keep looking for a larger bin.

I’m curious as to what bin you have. I have never seen a bin that big (with exception to the Iris Christmas Tree tote).
