Default What should I add to the cage?

I got a new Russian dwarf yesterday and he is settling in nicely, however I would like to add more enrichment to his cage. I'm off to pets at home this morning and any suggestions to fill his cage would be fab. We have the barney 100 cage and I need to down size his wheel as i previously had a syrian hamster and he doesn't seem able to turn it.

Don't add to much while he is still settling in, I would buy some of the straw hammocks, you can use there around the sides of the cage and to hang acccross the top to create dark cosy areas, maybe a coconut shell house, you don't want to change too much while he settles in

I wouldn't be too worried about adding things in, just try not to take things out or move things around too much.

A whimzee might be good, although our local pets at home seems to be very thin on these and small rodent items at the moment. I agree with Maker a coconut hide might be nice.

Do let us know what you end up buying.

Agree not to change or add too much while settling, a coconut hide would be nice though, you could also maybe add something like an egg box with a hole cut in each end makes a good little hide & place to hide food or treats.
Do you have a sand bath? I can’t see from the photo but a sand bath is important for a Russian ham, big & deep enough to have a good roll & dig in, probably one of the most important additions for a Russian, you’ll need chinchilla sand not dust, the tiny friends farm is ok if not the best or you can use play sand dried out in the oven.
Agree with Luna about the whimzee if you can get one, they love them!
