Ok, so I am looking at various boxes, especially for good deals, I have 3 syrians that need housing, a dwarf hamster and depending on what the litters look like, up to 4 more syrians.

Soooooooooooooooo, where did you get your boxes from? How much did they cost? How big are they (litres and internal/external dimensions)?

I have found some cheap tools that should do the job in argos.

For boxes, I am looking at plastic storage boxes underbed boxes shoe boxes pl in the large box section but would a medium box be ok. We are hoping to be able to install another level in the box somehow.

I think that might be all my questions for now! I am really excited!

i got mine from B&Q, This one: B&Q Rolling Box Complete With Lid Clear Base & Lid/Grey Wheels, 17307182

You'd be better off with the bigger the better, especially with a larger number altogether.
But a medium one is still an ok size

I got mine from Ikea IKEA | Boxes & baskets | Secondary storage boxes | SAMLA | Box
for a syrian lids are £4 extra

IKEA | Boxes & baskets | Secondary storage boxes | SAMLA | Box for my robo pair

and Staples For Grace Really Useful, 84 Litre Stacking Storage Box, Clear, Really Useful Office Storage Boxes, Storage Boxes (Plastic), Archive and Storage, Filing and Archive Supplies, Office Supplies - Staples

Tesco have some fab ones that are quite a bargain

80L Crystal box with lid - Tesco.Direct And they also come in pink and blue

Definately be looking at the floor space over the litre-age, but you still want something big enough to fit a second level in, especially for your syrians.

I like this one from the link you provided http://www.plasticboxshop.co.uk/pack...-lid-474-p.asp

RSPCA recommend an area of 3ft sq, so approx 70 cm by 40cm, and if you can fit in a second level all the better

Manda at Mythic hams has some fab instructions for making bins here
Mythic Hams - Hamster D.I.Y

She uses a smaller box or basket turned upside down and fixed in place to for levels and nesting areas. She also attaches wheels to boxes.

that looks great! are they permenantly fixed in place? would that not make taming and cleaning a bit difficult? but it is certainly cheaper than the option I am going with for a second level, I am buying from a guy on ebay who makes shelves for chinchillas

If you attach using a bolt and wing nut it is quite simple just to spin it off for cleaning it Louise I believe. You would likely be best to leave it off till the hammy is nice and tame

OK, I now have my Dremel tool, i do crafty things so this is going to come in really handy anyway (well, that the excuse I gave my DH, plus it was only £22 on Amazon).

I was thinking about harvesting from my current cages but I wasnt to eliminate bar rub so figured I am going to have to get in some wire mesh.

Still haven't decided about boxes, so this week, I am planning a box hunt around town and will see whether I can find anything that trumps the boxes I have found online.

Happy Easter!
