Kaytee clean and cosy
Is it really sad that I just bought my first bag and I am very excited to try it as so many of you on here recommend this product, It does work out quite expensive compared to the megazorb I normally use (along with aubiose) but just thought I would treat me and my hamsters.
Roll on tomorrow when it gets delivered.
I did look at fitch but that also seemed expensive compared to the megazorb.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
I quite like it - I still prefer to use Fitch and keep the Kaytee as an emergency back up in case I run out of Fitch - which usually happens part way through a cage clean or something. I don't know about Megazorb costs but find Fitch lasts a long time and goes a long way. Maybe because it's not so condensed. I only liked the white one though (Kaytee). Found the coloured ones smelled a bit of dye. But it does wear off if you air it first.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
I really liked Kaytee and although I don't use it as a main substrate as it's a little pricey, I keep it for hospital cages. If you decide you like it, it's worth keeping an eye on Amazon as they sometimes have it on offer.
Fitch has got very pricey lately... when I started using it I was paying under £20 for a 20kg bag and now I notice that you can only get 10kg for your £20. I stopped using it a couple of years ago because of the price increases and the declining quality.
Do let us know what you think of the Kaytee Clean and Cozy.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
Yes Fluffagrams, I got the 24.6 litre white one for £7.99 on Amazon which with a quick look around seemed quite a good price.
I saw the fitch was 10kg for £20 too, I think the Megazorb is 15kg and if you are lucky and live near an equestrian shop you can get it for about £8 something. I have to pay postage so costs me around £13-£15.
I thought it would be nice to do one section in it when I set up Twinkles new cage (if it ever arrives)
Serendipity, that's interesting re the coloured ones smelling. If i ever do a cage theme I might treat myself/the hammies to one of them and see what I think Maybe an autumn or halloween theme...
There will certainly be a christmas/winter themed cage.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
well, i just opened the bag of kaytee clean and cosy, i like the feel of it but boy it doesn't go far does it. I think it has gone back up to £10.99 again now, so glad I got it for the price i did. Depending on how the hamsters like it, I may buy it again if I do a xmas theme and need 'snow'. I was trying to do one section of the cage in it, but will have to put some megazorb or aubiose underneath it to make it go a bit further. How do people manage to do a whole cage in it, must cost a fortune. I might also give fitch a try in the future.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
The smaller bags of kaytee don’t go far, I buy the bigger bafs (can’t remember exactly what size off hand) from Amazon on subscribe & save so it’s a bit cheaper.
It is expensive to fill a cage from scratch but top ups after cleaning don’t use so much So it’s not bad in the long run.
I’ve used fitch in the past & it is more economical if you can store the 20kg bags.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
Right, got you Cypher, I think the size i got was the only 1 amazon was selling at the time, they seemed to be out of quite a lot of the different sizes and coloured ones. I will remember that for another time.
It's a lot nicer/softer than carefresh, I would never use carefresh again (tried a bag last year) but it was so dusty and one of my hamsters had an allergic reaction to it and both her eyes closed up. i felt so bad.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
Luna, your cage is lush! Absolutely beautiful!
As for Kaytee C&C, the 85l is usually £23 and like cypher said, after the initial splurge it's not too bad, but regardless of pack size you could shred up kitchen/paper towel to bulk it up and offer additional support for burrows.

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
I've been looking into switching from Kaytee as I want to make my hamster's cages a more natural theme. Is the Fitch good for burrowing or would I have to mix it with something for the tunnels to hold up?

Re: Kaytee clean and cosy
Presley Fitch & Kaytee are very similar as far as burrowing & how it looks goes, Kaytee is a bit whiter & slightly softer but not a really big difference. I've found my hams are able to burrow in both without needing to add anything.
