I need an opinion about this cage I found
Hi. So, my dad said he'd help me built a cage, but I know that we are on a low budget, and so I don't what my parents to spend money (right now) on wood, and I proposed a thing. I search for bin cages, or other cages, within the measures suitable for a hamster, and we'd confront prices and then if we found a suitable cage (or bin cage) they'd buy me the cage for my b-day.
I found one, on a portuguese site (since I'm from Portugal, the taxes on the transport would be free or just bellow 5€) and I need an opinion.
Do you think, looking at the measurements, if it is suitable for a dwarf hamster (this is the specie I'm wanting to have). It's says on the description that it's suitable for rabits and guinea pigs, so I'm hoping it would be okay for hamsters, having in consideration that, as soon as we're able, we're building a bigger cage.

Thank you all!

Hi,
You would need to mesh the wired/barred part as the gaps look way too big for any type of dwarf hamster. I think it says they are 2.5 cm wide gaps, which are way too big.

Oh, yes you're right! I was so focused on the space of the cage that I didn't looked at other details! Thanks!

Have you looked on Miscota? They have a lot of hamster cages and I think they ship from Spain. The Ferplast duna multy is good for a dwarf hamster and so is the hamster heaven (providing you take out the tubes and penthouse and it’s better with just the one shelf).

Also Zooplus are a reliable company - shipping is free when you buy a cage. They also sell wheels, food and accessories etc.

A bin cage can be a cheap option but it can add up in cost if you need to buy any tools for cutting. Otherwise you just need mesh and cable ties.

About the bin cages, I did found lots, on what we call a "chinese store" (which has a variety of produts) but the biggest I've found was 70x40x20 cm and I wanted a bigger one, with at least 90x50x30... and to be even more difficult, the largest that I mencioned was around 39€ which is kind of expensive for a box of plastic... considering I'm making toys (DIY's, and I still need to buy lots of bedding, food and toys I can't DIY....)
But I'm still looking for bigger bin cages, but due to coronavirus, most chinese stores are still closed... and the ones that are opened, I already checked them all. BUT I'm not giving up!

The cage that you found is quite cheap for the size. It appears to be 100cm by 50cm which is quite big (although not recommended for rabbits like it’s marketed for). You would need to put mesh over the bars but overall is is a bargain!

1º- 80 x 39 x 30cm (17,95€)
2º - 76,8 x 56,5 x 34,8cm (22,95)
3º - 80 x 60 x 33cm (22,95 - because this one has the same price as the 2º, I'm considering taking a measuring tape with me the next time, to confirm these measurements)
4º - 80 x 39,5 x 34 (I couldn't see the price of it, and this one was totally black with a yellow lid, quite cute)
Could you give me an opinion about these measurements and which would be better?
Thank you

Re: I need an opinion about this cage I found
When you measure make sure it is the size you want at the bottom, sometimes the open top is big and then the sides slope in. Also look to see if there are any corners coming in to the box as these will be chew places. I wonder if the black one will get too hot? Just because of the colour??
