Default Bar spacing

Thinking in terms of future hamsters here so bare with me.

I currently have a zoozone 2 which I know is suitable for robos.

I also have a savic plaza with a bar spacing of 0.9-1cm. I know this is ok for Russian dwarves and Syrians but would this be ok for robos? Reason for asking is because I hear people keep their robos in the Alaska which has a bar spacing of 0.9-1cm depending where you measure as where the side panels join, the gaps are larger

Anyone kept a robo in the plaza?

I wouldn’t keep a Robo in anything with bar spacing bigger than 7mm. Mainly because with bigger bar spacing they can get stuck in the bars if they try to squeeze through. Some people have kept robos in cages with 1cm bar spacing going with gut based on their hamster’s behaviour and personality. If it was the Savic Plaza or Alaska there are serious risks of injury from falls due to the height so it would need a full level or a very careful set up with no fall risks - eg lots of substrate and any floor toys either under a shelf or with something hanging over them - and shelves with hemp mat on do the edges aren’t hard if landed on. Robos will climb bars. Which doesn’t always work so well as they don’t like a lot of open space at floor level. It can be achieved but needs a very carefully thought out set up. A full level would be better in anything taller than the hamster heaven.

Yeh that's what I was thinking.

I was going to put perspex sheets up against the bars on the inside. Leaving the front and roof open but I don't know how that would work though. It'd allow me to add in a lot more bedding

I looked into that once but it was going to work out quite expensive with the Perspex. Our Robo was in the Savic mickey 2xl which was great. Lowish cage with 7mm bar spacing and the big front opening door (virtually the same as hamster heaven except for the bar spacing).

I did wish bit was a bit bigger than 80cm but it suited him well. It’s not a cheap cage though - about £86 on Amazon. The Elmo cage on Amazon.de is a good option as well. It’s basically a lower barney cage. Good height for a Robo and 100 Cm cafe but doesn’t have the big front door. It’s effectively a zoo zone 2 but with a barred top.

I’m not sure I’d use the plaza for a Robo but it could work with the Perspex.

Didn't think it'd work. I'll probably keep a campbells or ww in the plaza then.

I've seen the Elmo, Barney and Mickey and they're great cages but I don't want to be going out and buying another cage.
