Leaking water bottle
Hi, I have an urgent question. This morning I found the water bottle had been leaking badly and poor hammy was sleeping in a wet bed. I think I’ve got it all dry now but was afraid to spook him as I only got him the day before yesterday. He was asleep at the time but moved away while I sorted his bedding as best I could. He seems ok but he must have been paddling in a stream of water to get to his drinking bottle. I’m worried this might have harmed him. I think I’ve remedied the leak a bit by filling bottle right up to top but there is still a drip hanging off the end. This is the bottle that came with the Savic hamster heaven, seems to be a common problem.
Anyway I’m looking on amazon to try to find one guaranteed not to leak. So far each one has mixed reviews regarding this issue. Please can someone advise me, I don’t care how much it costs as long as my poor boy doesn’t have to sleep in wet bed again.
Thanks from a very new hammy mum

Re: Leaking water bottle
I am sure your hamster will be fine, as long as he is dry now.
Until you can replace the bottle have you got a small tea light bowl or something similar you can put soem water in?
I personally have never had a problem with these bottles
https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/p...e-water-bottle
or you can get a more expensive glass one like;
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/produc...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
pets at home also do a glass version, but I have never personally used one. (Not sure which country you are in)

Re: Leaking water bottle
To be honest I've had a few random leaky bottles from a few different manufacturers. I had a similar experience with a bottle (can't recall the make now but I bought it at a pet shop) where Norman's cage ended up soaked. They replaced the bottle with one of the same make and it has been perfect.
I think that it is essential to provide a hamster with at least two sources of water in case just this type of situation arises. Some people provide a bottle and a small bowl, others two bottles, but ensuring that a hamster has an alternative water source in the event of one failing is very important.

Re: Leaking water bottle
Thanks both for advice and reassurance. The bottle seems ok now that I've filled it up to the top to create vacuum. I will also add a bowl as soon as I can find one suitable. It seems a more natural way for him to drink anyway.
Sorry for delay in replying. I've been looking for them on site, not realising, they would come to my email box. I'm new to this forum, enjoying it very much, such lovely people with really good info and gorgeous pics. Perhaps one day I'll be able to post one of my little boy, but so far I hardly see him as he doesn't really come out to play until after I go to bed, however late I stay up for him. Any advice on how to encourage him to wake up a bit earlier so we can get to know each other?
