Question What shavings is the best?

Hi all,
I would like to know if aspen bedding (the wood shavings) is safe and suitable to use for my 3 month old Syrian Hamster. After I got notified that the wood shavings I was currently using wasn't safe, I got told aspen wood shavings is one of the only safe ones.
If not sure which one I am talking about... it is on the pets@home website called 'Aspen Bedding 10 Litre'.

Is this safe and suitable for my hamster??

Those aspen shavings are safe. I've used the Pro-rep aspen shavings, which come in a big sack, and found they didn't absorb much and got smelly in just a few days. They were also very dusty. I'm not sure if the Pets at Home aspen is better, but it is quite expensive for the amount you get. I think you would need 2 or 3 of the 20 litre packs to fill an 80x50cm cage base.

If you want to avoid other wood shavings (I use Pets at Home softwood shavings, but I know not everyone's comfortable with them), other good options are Kaytee Clean and Cozy, Fitch and hemp (Aubiose). I've used Aubiose and really liked it. It has a pleasant smell and controls odours well. Kaytee C&C and Fitch have good reviews and are quite popular. These all work out cheaper than the small packs of aspen.

As long as it is safe for my hammy to use! I will give it a try while I received a bag of it.

Thank you for your help and kindness.
