Wooden European Hamster Cages - Wowzer! lol!
Whilst I was browsing the internet today I found these: Hamster Cages: great selection at zooplus (hope the link works!)
Now, at first look I thought WOW!!! These are amazing, they are like a piece of furniture and would fit in better than a brightly coloured plastic tank or cage. They give an excelent view of your pet and have lots of features and hidy hoes built in. A real hammy palace!
However, after thinking about it I wonder how easy these cages are to clean? You wouldn't be able to put the hole thing in the bath to clean like a do with my plastic tank. Would this mean that nasty germs would harbour in there? Also, with the cages being wood would some of the toys be quickly destroyed or the cage it's self develop holes through chewing?
I would be very interrested in what people think of these, if you have had/ got one yourself or just a general opinion, of what you think by looking at them.
I am possibly getting a syrian nearer the summer (yay!!!!) and this type of cage could be a possible contender for my new hammy's home, I am also considering the ferplast duna multy and the duna multy maxi. So any advice is very welcome and I would love to hear your opinions! Thnaks Guys!

They do look gorgeous, and spacious, but yeah, i'd be worried about the cleaning even though it says, pull out shelves make easy clean :/ it depends on what wood it is. It might have a glossy, varnish thing, which will make it easy to wipe and stuff. And the price
If i had the money for one, and i knew they were easy to clean, i would definetley get one.
Btw, i LOVE the Rodent Cage Phoenix. And i just read the description, and it says it has a non toxic glaze, so its probably very easy to clean

Re: Wooden European Hamster Cages - Wowzer! lol!
omg... if i have this kind of cage for my hamsters... I would be very happy. as in, they are more solid than the plastic cage and I am pretty sure the hamster won't start biting the wood like they do sometimes with cage bar :P
from what I see, I think the cage is quite solid (not easy to be destroyed by hamsters), and most probably you can't use water (well, you can but you have to let it dry under sun or find someway else) and the difficulties, if you wanna add up some toys that need to hang it would be kinda hard, don't you think? Because most probably you have to make a hole? *thinking* and one more thing, just make sure you don't put it in humid place and it should be okay.. (Asian thinking)
Happy choosing! please let me know if you decide to purchase it

Don't get me started on these cages - I'm in love with them!
I love they space and size they provide - they look a great, fun home for Hammies and they look great cosmetically too.
The cleaning side of things is what has put me off... My Hammy uses a potty, but you never know what smudges and wet marks will get on them - and them being wood will make it difficult to truly clean.
Europeans seem to love them though, so maybe I'll bite the bullet and order one

It says they have a special glaze on them, so you can easily clean them.

They do look good but it doesn't look like you'd be able to fit a lot of toys in it... I like how with my hamster heaven cages I can keep adding different hanging toys and stuff to make it more interesting whilst in some of those everything is fixed.

Re: Wooden European Hamster Cages - Wowzer! lol!
Thanks for all of your comments they have been really useful I did actually find an old post on here from someone that had one of these cages and the post had some pictures and when you actually see a hammy inside it the cage looks huge! I'm just worried about the practicalities of cleaning it and the duruability of the cage. (After seeing Sir Alan's Exploits! ) I'm wondering if a chewy syrian could make a hole in the cage and they would certainaly be able to make short work of alot of the shelves and stairs! I think I am leaning towards the Ferplast Maxi Duna Multy as I can fill it with different things and keep changing everything around regulary. A plastic tank is also a lot easier to pick up and dump in the bath for cleaning!
Thanks Again! x
