Thanks Shazzy - I have contacted the breeder that I'm hopefully getting my syrian from and she recommends the Duna Multy too. The idea you had about putting a flat roofed house in to make a 'level' is a good idea, as I was thinking about levels (or lack of them) too. Mmmmm . . . now you really have got me thinking! Think I may be leaning towards the Multy again!

Shazzy - Just to let you know that I have contacted the seller of this cage on ebay and thay say that the cage is not all that heavy and can eailsy be lifted by one person, but on the down side the wood is not coated with anything so this would need to be done yourself to stop nasty stains and smells from seeping into the wood, and to make cleaning eaiser. Hope this helps with your decision.

You can clean cages like this i a very easy way without moving it to other places:

Put your hamster out of the cage in to a little box or any other safe place.
Then you need a rubbish-bag and a little shovel and a handbroom ( don't know if the words are right, but i mean this things http://www.fuhrberger.de/virthos/dat...d_klein__1.jpg ).
Then u can take out all the "furniture" out of the cage and can take out the litter with the shovel into the bag until you're ready .
After this you just need to fill in new litter and put the "furniture" and the hamster bag into the cage .

That's the way I clean my own wooden cages

OOOh thanks Hope I was going to do the same but you have saved me a job! Hmmm... gonna have to have another think about it, still very tempting!!! Only downside now is moving Mo again when she appears to be quite settled.

I don't have one of them, my owns are selfmade, but the principle of cleaning is the same (i'm going to show my cages here in the next time i think).

Wooden cages itselves are good, when they don't give the hamster a chance to nibble on wood from the walls, and if wee doen't have a chance to get into the wood (this would stink and it's not good for the wood).
Some of the members in a german hamsterforum where i'm active, too, have bought cages like these .
They aren't good at the wee-point, but you can reduce the risk in an easy way by putting a (thin) "coated" flake board (if the word for "Spanplatte" which LEO Deutsch-Englisches Wörterbuch gave me is right, they feel like the wood many kitchen cupboards and so on are made off) on the ground .

Google Translate translates "Spanplatte" as Particleboard, what we call Chipboard here in the UK. This stuff: File:Particleboard.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
