Default Keeping hamsters in the same room

I was wondering if keeping two Syrian hamsters in the same room will affect their behaviour is a negative way or anything, for example keeping a male and female in the same room because of the female going into season every few days or keeping too males if they can smell each other same for two females.

I know a lot of people on youtube keep their hamsters in the same room regardless of gender but I'm still not sure if its the best thing and if its alright which would be best the keep in the same room as long as the cages aren't next to each other, a male and female, female and female or male and male?

thanks for any advise!!

Really good question, would love to know the answer, it’s the only thing stopping me rescuing another

I have a male Syrian and a male Robo in one room and they aren't bothered.

Two dwarfs live in another room, a male and a female and they aren't bothered either.

I had a female rescue Syrian staying overnight a few days ago in the same room as the two dwarfs and the two females reacted to each other. I think one or both of them were in heat. The Syrian girl was in her cage and went into a sort of attack position while the dwarf girl was out of her cage running around the futon but disappeared under a cushion and wouldn't come out. When i lifted the cushion she was lying there flat as a pancake and totally still so i picked her up and put her back in her cage.
Not really sure what this was all about.

The male dwarf ignored the girls but he's only interested in food anyway.

All my hamsters live in the same room, with about 1ft horizontally between their cages. I've never had any behavioral issues with them at all and they go about their business without paying any attention to each other.

I've had one female and four males in my hamster-keeping time.

I've always kept my hams in the same room with no problems at all, there is some distance between cages but the room isn't that big & it works fine, I currently have 1 female & 3 male Chinese.

I have had 2 female hamsters in the same room, and a male and a female hamster in the same room. Their cages are probably about 3 -4 metres apart.
I do think they know each other are there, they sometimes have a good sniff of the air but then they continue on their merry way and do their own things. I don't see any signs of distress. I also think rescues must have a load of hamsters together in one room without too much bother.
I do have to admit I was more concerned how it would go when I brought a male into the house but my female didn't seem bothered at all and the male didn't seem bothered either.

I share my room with 4 hamsters. 2 female Syrians, 1 male Syrian and 1 male roborovski. They don't seem bothered by each other. Free roaming is uneventful too. They'll walk past the cage of the other ham. Think it'll depend on the individual though

I have my two roborovskis in my room. They were separated after 2 months due to fighting but I don't even know if they remember that each other exist anymore lol. I keep all of their toys separate (the only thing they share is the play pen but it's wiped over between uses) and honestly they are much happier separated and unaware of eachother!

(males btw)
