Question Cage height for dwarf

So.. I'm gonna adopt a dwarf. I constantly see people putting their hamsters up for sale because they don't want them anymore (and they're often put in tiny cages too) and I just want to adopt them all.

But I can't, so I'm adopting one. I got a nice cage that's 78 x 47.5 x 29cm but I feel like it's not very tall.. I'm not sure if that matters for a dwarf? Here's the cage:

All hamsters really need is enough height for bedding depth and a proper sized wheel (height can provide enrichment but can also possibly be a danger), so as long as you have enough height for the bedding you need and a correct size wheel you will be fine!

That would bit a little short on height, you can try sectioning of an area for the wheel with less substrate if you're really stuck for a taller cage but it doesn't tend to work that well, with a 20cm wheel (more including the stand) plus a good depth of substrate you do need something around 35-40cm.

Yeah I was thinking as much... I will try and look for a different cage. Maybe I can use this as a temporary cage for cleaning.

I could see that cage having great use as a travel cage - not a carrier but the actual cage you would use when travelling. Obviously right now is not a time for travelling but realistically it never hurts to have a decent sized travel cage along with a safe and secure carrier since you never know what sort of unplanned things may happen!

A play cage for use during cleaning is also a great idea. It would work fairly well for that purpose too, especially for more nervous hamsters or newer hamsters that would do better in a smaller enclosed play space than a large space such as a bathtub.

I like that cage. If you can fit a wheel in, probably best to attach it to the bars it should work in my opinion. You could section one area off with cardboard or wood fence or whatever then create a large sand area with a hide underneath the wheel. A long bendy ladder could lead into it and the rest of the cage could have deep substrate increasing in depth towards the opposite side.
A Robo only needs a 6.5in or 7in wheel and my dwarfs run fine with straight backs in a 7in wheel.

Thanks for the suggestions! I found another cage but I'm keeping this one as well. It's always nice to have an emergency case on hand! I should be picking up a little dwarf male tomorrow and when I do I will introduce him to you all!
