So, I got my hamster today, think he is 8 weeks Old or something, he roamed about for awhile, climbed the bars, exploring, chewed the bars a little... he is a dark grayish color, the girl at the store was sorry to see him go as it was her favorite and was a rare kinda color she said., he did hop on this wheel but only for a couple seconds.

looks like he enjoys sleeping in the tuff tunnel and he is sleeping now.. got some food out, not seen him take any yet but could be mistaken, but he knows where it is.

so obviously , leaving him alone. to get settled,.

weird when they're sleeping sounds dead quiet, almost like something is wrong, but obviously it isn't lol.

I have ordered a Mini 75ML one, I feel like having a big one is kinda pointless for hamsters, as you change the water every few days anyway..

I use the 75ml ones as well. The other ones that are good are the Ferplast Drinky 75ml ones. Porton Aquatic sells them online. I actually prefer those to the classic bottles as they let water out so well but never drip and they come with a little attachment that fits onto the bars and the bottle then sits inside the cage and just lifts out easily. I usually get two at a time to save on postage and then I have a spare.

You can just see it behind Moo on the photo below. The holder clips to the bars and sits on the inside of the cage and the bottle just lifts in and out so you don't have the whole issue with the spout fitting between the bars (which can be noisy with 7mm bar spacing and our first hamster was nervous of the noise!). They come in various colours - pot luck.

So the wheel he is using is a DIY wheel I got from ebay. Had good reviews. At first he kinda struggled to get it to move but within an hour or 2 he started to get a hang of it . Anyway I thought he peed on it so I took it out to spray with pet safe cleaner. Was careful not to spray anything but the plastic. Not he's having a harder job. What did I do wrong? It is 12 inch wheel but he's only a few weeks old.

So hamster seems OK. Like I said it's only few weeks old... Though it seems to pee in its nest.. Going to get a potty . And see if that helps.

It's more interested in his wheel than me currently. It's what it does all night lol

They do tend to pee in their wheels. Plastic surfaces are ok just to wiped clean occasionally - no need for disinfectant - in fact strong smells like disinfectant can affect them so best only used if there is infection and then rinsed well afterwards. With wood wheels most people paint them with plasikote enamel - water based and pet safe - so they become wipe clean.

He is still a baby so probably hasn't got his toilet habits quite right yet! A litter tray should help.

Do you have a picture of the wheel? You need to check wheels for safety (and also that they spin well enough). Popular safe wheels are the 28cm trixie wheel which is only about £9 from amazon or Zooplus, or the wood 28cm trixie wheel (which is silent) from zooplus but needs plastikoting - about £13.
