Re: Upgrading cages
How about a Barney Cage? It's a good size 100 x 54 and no meshing or supplies for meshing needed. About £50 It's about the biggest floor area of commercially available cages with smaller bar spacing (it actually has 7mm bar spacing). There is also the Borneo 120cm cage with 8mm bar spacing - but it's huge and very tall so really needs a full level. Not as cheap though.

Re: Upgrading cages
Plan B, could you set up alarms on searches on the 2nd hand websites and see if any 2nd hand decent sized cages come up in your area.

That was the first thing I did believe it or not lol. I found one which is bigger than the bin cage but not the 100vm I wanted. It's roughly the same size as the Alaska so I can't complain really and they seem ok for now

Re: Upgrading cages
Updating this thread again. Does anyone know of a 100cm cage that's good for dwarf species other than the Alexander and Barney? What are peoples thoughts on the mamble or is the bar spacing too big. I think it's 1cm

Re: Upgrading cages
Mamble is too tall in my opinion - you'd have to DIY another full level to prevent high falls, or set up lots of hammocks etc. It does have really big side doors which I like, but I'd go with the Barney. Much better build, sturdier and smaller spacing. I do believe you can keep any species in a Barney. The only downside I find is the doors on the side are tiny, making it difficult to clean without using the huge door on the top...I find my ham hates this. She was a slow-tamer and quite skittish anyway, and panics when I approach her/the cage from above.
How about the Savic Plaza? I can't get on Pets@H website at min, but I do believe it was about £75 from there? It has 9.5mm bar-spacing and a really big side door for good cleaning access.

Barney is sold out almost everywhere I know I'd need to be careful of the height I do have shelves and hammocks lying around from when I owned rats so I could use those. I'd need to buy 2 so want a cheaper option than the plaza.
Are the mambles able to stack? Or too flimsy?
I'll look to see if I can find the plaza cheaper

Re: Upgrading cages
I wouldn't stack mambles the bars are definitely not the strongest & the sides tend to bend inwards under pressure, I agree it is a bit too tall for most hams.

Re: Upgrading cages
Pets at home normally reduce the savic plaza at easter, black fri and xmas. No idea if they will do it this easter. Normally has 25% off. Don 't know if it is ok for dwarves though. I don't really know much about dwarf hamsters.

I've just checked and it's still £75 at the moment. It has 1cm bar spacing. People put roborovskis in the Alaska which is 0.9? So would assume it'd be ok for Russians. Robos would be pushing it I think. I know I wouldn't trust my robo in an Alaska
