That is a lovely tank style cage. A bit expensive. If you prefer the tank style it’s a good option. Assume you mean the 96 cm version? The smaller one would be too small for a Syrian due to the width not being the deep and the height being low. The wheel would virtually fill it. I think Zooplus only sell the 96cm version anyway.

Things to consider- it may need to have something big enough to stand on as the base is glass. Whereas a cage base is smaller at the bottom than the top and fine to have a bit of overhang over whatever it is standing on.

The Marrakesh is a great option - I have had one for several years and it's still in good condition.

The base is two lengths of wood with a pane of glass on top. This means that you can have a bit of overhang lengthwise, but width wise it needs to be fully supported really.

Thank you - is it waterproof at the bottom? So any wet bedding cant soak the wood on any corner?

The wood has a moisture proof veneer coating, so wet bedding shouldn't be a problem at all.

I decided to stick it out and just got an Alaska second hand !!

I’m so excited to get a hamster soon. I really appreciate all the advice on this thread thank you so much

Next step is to get a wheel and house - I think a 30cm wheel will fit in it - would that be the best size or is slightly smaller better (also seen a 22cm one)?

The Alaska will fit a 28-30cm (11-12inch ) wheel easily. You really don't want to be using anything smaller, a 22cm would be too small.

For a Syrian you need at least a 28cm wheel.

This is a basic popular syrian wheel - 28cm Trixie wheel. It's about 11" and should fit any size of syrian except the unusally ginormous!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-6101...s%2C164&sr=8-1

If you want a silent wheel then the trixie wood wheel is a reasonable price as well. It has a cork running surface good for hammies feet. However most people find it's a good idea to paint the wheel and surface with plasti kote enamel paint which waterproofs it and makes it wipe clean. It's pet safe and more or less odourless. That costs another £4 for the pot of plastikote

You want the 28cm one again

https://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small..._wheels/609617

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

There is a 12" wheel that is very good - also silent and has a safe sturdy stand and can also be bar mounted. I've used this for 3 years and even though an 11" wheel would be big enough, this is one of the best wheels I've ever used - for longevity, completely silent and spins really well and easily for hamsters. But it's not cheap. It works very well when mounted to the bars as you can put it where you want and whatever height you want (eg to allow substrate under it level with the rest of the cage). And the bar attachments plates cost extra - about another £6. The wheel is also fine just used on its stand though.

But you'd also be fine with either of the trixie wheels.
