Rapeseed straw bedding?
So I have recently got back into keeping hamsters and a lot has changed. I got my rescue boy George yesterday!
Back when I last kept hamsters the only thing we kept them on was some unknown sawdust. I have now been reading that this is no longer the best choice. Since he is long haired I would like something that won't get tangled in his fur. I have seen Fitch bedding been suggested but I have a local equine store and I saw one that is Rapeseed straw, I've included the link. It looks kinda like aspen bedding.
Would this be safe to use? And do you think it will be okey for a long haired hamster?

Re: Rapeseed straw bedding?
I have no idea about rapeseed straw tbh, I haven't come across anyone using it before so can't say for sure if it would be ok.
An alternative to fitch is the Kaytee clean & cosy paper bedding, I would have thought that would be ok for a long haired syrian but not having kept one again can't say for sure but it is a lovely soft substrate that works well for hams.

Re: Rapeseed straw bedding?
Ah shame about the rapeseed straw but they mush be a reason somewhere why no one has ever tried it. I'll have a look into the Kaytee bedding, thanks.
