It's the zoozone 2 100x50cm. The wheel is 11". The mesh I used was for insects. She can't reach the lid thankfully. She's about 16 months now so is slowing down a tad. Climbing isn't her thing thankfully

Even if she isn't a climber now there's always the massive risk factor that she could one day decide to climb and escape when you're sleeping or otherwise unable to supervise properly.

Insect mesh/screening/etc isn't safe or remotely suitable for hamsters or similar pets. It is way too soft and easy to chew through, so it's a very easy way to get yourself an escaped pet!

Mesh needs to be sturdy and 100% chew proof, as well as properly sized. Too large mesh obviously can lead to escapes, but there is the potential risk of tooth injury with too small mesh as well if bars/mesh/etc are ever chewed(known more in the gerbil community - but it could definitely happen with hamsters too).

Your Zoozone would be fine for a Syrian. You know your hamster and if she is ageing and doesn’t climb or chew and it has been working then I can see why you haven’t meshed the lid. It would definitely need 1cm square wire mesh for a Syrian!

Just thought I would say that I didn't think my Syrian hamster Star was a climber as she never climbs up the bars when I'm around but but I have noticed on the night camera she can climb a little bit. Is amazing what they get up to when we aren't watching.

I agree. Personally I would be on the safe side and mesh it. It doesn’t take long if you ask the diy store to cut a piece exactly the right size then you just need some cable ties.

I need to upgrade my syrian's cage as he has been in a temporary cage for taming purposes. He is now getting bigger and need to upgrade. Looking at the ferplast duna multy or the ferplast duna multy maxi. Can someone please advise me on which to get? Thanks
