Default Sand Section For Robo?

One of my robos loves sand, and I recently discovered the joy of using dividers to have multiple substrates without it being very messy, so naturally my mind went to sand! At the moment I have 3 sections: of some kind of wood shaving, hay and c&c. I've also heard that robos should have at least 1/3 of their cage sand, so should I just bite the bullet and buy a massive bag of sand? Thank you for any responses!

Yes, you might need a good amount to start with, depending on how big your sand area is going to be. However, since most sand clumps when wet, you can just pick out the wet areas every few days, and the sand shouldn't need replacing very often. Zooplus sell 5kg bags of sand for about £6.

Is it this sand?

I have been thinking about this for a while

The zooplus sand has reviews saying that it is very fine and i'm a little worried about that.

Yes, it's that sand.

I've never used children's play sand, so I'm unsure of how good it is. I know it does need to be baked and sifted before use, and I'm not sure whether it might not be too fine. Also, 15kg is a lot of sand to store.

I've just worked out that a 15x10cm area of 1 inch deep sand, uses about 750g of sand. You will probably want a larger area than that, so you can calculate how much sand you would need, and whether it would be worth buying it in larger quantities.

The Zooplus sand seems to have a similar particle size to the Pro-rep desert sand, which I have been using up till now (when I realised the Zooplus sand was cheaper). They are both finer than the Tiny Friends sand. I have used both the Zooplus and Pro-rep sands with my Roborovski hamster and my two gerbils without any issues, though a Syrian hamster boarding with me sneezed after contact with the Zooplus sand.

My robo has a large chinchilla bath with 1kg of sand in it
I stick his wheel in there too. At the moment hes in a bin cage because I have an female Syrian that's never happy and rams her nose between bars in the zoozone. When Niko was in the ZZ he had a chin bath with sand, a large box nearly the same size with Coco coir in it, another with mixed herbs and hay. A shallow area with paper pellets then a real deep bit which was also tiered in carefresh or Kaytee clean and cosy. I think all hams appreciate different materials as it's enriching for them

When i adopted my Robo at the approx age of seven months after he had spent his life in a tiny pet shop tank.
Sand was new to him and he run around in it, rolled in it, dug in it, run on his wheel which is sitting in it and six months on things haven't changed one bit. Well, he dragged his alligator Whimzee into the sand.

Mine was the same. It's strange how they instinctively love sand even when they have never encountered it before.
