Default Babywipes

Does anyone know if unperfumed babywipes are suitable to clean plastic hamster wheels?

Two of my dwarves pee in their wheels so i have to clean them daily. My four hams have their own colour coded sponges which i use with warm water and mild washing up liquid to wash their wheels and then rinse/dry.

I'm just wondering if disposable wipes would be more hygienic or would they leave a residue, smell or stickiness behind?

Baby wipes will leave some residue & won't clean any more efficiently than soap & water, probably less. I would stick to just washing them. Do you really need to do it daily? Sometimes the more you clean the more they pee!

Thanks for reply cypher. I will stick to soap and water. I only clean when needed and when i think of it, it is only Robo Gordon's wheel i clean daily. He must spend a lot of time running during the night and its a bit sticky with pee and sand in the morning. I only get a smell when i get quite close to it as he's not a smelly hamster who doesn't even need full cage cleans. The wheel is in the sand and he likes it there. He doesn't pee in the sand.

It doesn't bother me to clean his wheel or where he pees.

Do you think that i unintentionally upset him by cleaning and that he would prefer to run in a sticky and sandy wheel?

Maybe i should just give it a light wipe with dampened kitchen roll which in fact i do sometimes instead of sponging it? I understand the marking and scenting bit but he's been like that since i adopted him.

You probably didn't upset him, I would expect to see behaviour changes if that happened. I really don't know if they like running in a smelly wheel but mine always seem to be in a hurry to make them pong again after cleaning! Maybe try doing a wash once a week & wipe down with a damp paper towel between times if it needs it.

I use baby wipes (unfragranced and hypoallergenic). More for convenience and ease although warm water would probably be better for the environment too.
