Unhappy Fitch Bedding

So I had a small bag of fitch bedding which was really soft and so I thought I would buy the 20kg bag and it is awful! Loads of really hard bits and cardboard pieces that I am having to sit and pick out!

I am just wondering if anyone else has had this experience with fitch or if I maybe got a bad batch?

I know this has been asked a load of times but as prices change can anyone tell me what soft reasonably priced bedding they use?

If you want a soft bedding with consistent, good quality buy the Kaytee clean & cozy in white. It's compressed when in the packet and expands a lot when you fluff it up.
Can't go wrong with that. The bigger the packet the better the price works out. Check Amazon for offers.

Never tried Fitch because i stick to what i like.

I use the Kaytee c&c natural and camo myself because i prefer the colours and more papery consistency. I buy it from Porton Aquatics where i can get good deals online but i can drive there to collect so save on delivery charge.

I've never had a problem with Fitch myself but have heard that others have had a bad batch once in a while.

Maybe ill try a smaller bag of fitch again in the future then Cypher, maybe it was just this batch.

Thanks for the advice Ria P, think I will grab some Kaytee clean and cosy to put on top to make sure it's soft enough!

I think I had only had one bag of 20kg Fitch that was of good quality; all the others had large bits of cardboard, a bad smell, and at one point bits of plastic. The last two bags I had of Fitch were also extremely dusty; so much so that I'm not surprised my hamster died from respiratory issues a year ago. With the severe decrease in quality and huge price increase, I've sworn off it for good, and have been looking for alternatives while I wait for when I can bring new hammies into my home.
So far I've found a teabag bedding from petbeddinguk, but my other options seem to be shredding kitchen towel myself, or going back to using wood shavings or hemp, as I have two 100x50 cages with rather deep bases to fill, so costs add up.

Erin's animals recently posted a video on DIY bedding using napkins and kitchen roll. Put it through a shredder and it can be colorful too. So if you are doing a colour theme and/ want something cheap that's definitely an option.

I agree Jeir definitely not worth the money for the quality I have received. Think for now I might get hand shred some kitchin towels to top It as Engel suggested! I enjoyed the Erin's Animals video!
