Moss??
Just wondering if there are any hamster safe moss for decoration that I could buy from a commercial pet store. Victoria Raechel had a video and she included some in her cage but I can't find the video! They were like small rock shaped moss balls.

Re: Moss??
I believe moss from the reptile section, (sphagnum moss??), is safe. But just make sure you bake or freeze it to free of anything harmful. And that your hammy doesn’t eat too much of it too,

Re: Moss??
I wouldn't use anything like moss that may just cause a risk to the hamster. Hamsters are not like other animals in that they do pouch things and the risk of something causing a problem is increased.

Re: Moss??
I'd agree with souffle on this. Moss looks nice, but the added risks it has just aren't worth it.
You could maybe try adding a little hay(frozen first because of potential parasites, and gone through extremely carefully to avoid any remotely hard or pokey bits and overly long pieces).

Re: Moss??
Moss isn't really a safe option, I'd steer clear of it as the others say... I use green colour carefresh bedding instead, and it looks great in a natural themed setup. I'd thoroughly recommend it

Re: Moss??
The Kaytee C&C in camo has a natural look too.
I have used the Rodipet snuggle moss which is a dry moss especially for rodents. According to Rodipet it is cozy and warm and hamsters like to use it for their nests.
Well, they haven't met my Syrian Henry yet. I put some in his coconut hide and he chucked it out!
I use it to fill the gaps in bendy bridges and tunnels, put it around slate slabs and inbetween pebbles.
I've never seen my hamsters eat or pouch it and would consider it to be safe but at the same time wouldn't buy it again.
