Default Savic Hamster Heaven & Metro ideas

Hi everyone

I have two Campbell dwarfs, one in a hamster heaven and another in the metro but I want to enrich their cages but not sure where to start and don’t want to change them too much that they get upset.

Is there any pictures ideas anywhere on here, I have tried looking or any pictures people could post of theirs please.

As you know the shelves on the HH are a bit of a pain and the corner one seems a pointless with a domed top so I thought maybe another corner shelf.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi there. I have the Savic Mickey 2XL which is exactly the same as the Hamster Heaven but with narrow bars. Otherwise it's the identical cage (but doesn't come with the tubes and penthouse etc). I started with an empty cage. Will add some photos below. Initially it was set up for a Syrian (who then got upgraded to a bigger cage). Later I set it up for our robo.

I basically go with - large house with a flat roof (which also makes a level) at one end. Wheel in the back corner at the other end. Flying saucer in the front corner opposite the wheel. Floor toys in the middle. I particularly like the large cork logs even for a dwarf hamster - it makes a nice big dark tunnel to run through and an interesting texture to climb over (I had it partly under a shelf so it doubled up as a ramp up to the shelf).

I also like the rat sputniks - even for a dwarf hamster. I had one hanging next to a shelf for our robo with some bedding in - it gives overhead cover so they don't feel too exposed on the floor of the cage.

The first photo was the set up for our Syrian. The rest are the set up for our robo. On the right side is a large labyrinth house sat on just a couple of centimetres of substrate with some substrate inside the house and round the outside so it's almost subterranean. Above that on the right at the back is a corner shelf and the cork log is the ramp to that shelf. I also had a piece of cork screwed to the bars front right as a shelf. The rat sputnik sat next to the shelf and cork shelf so he couldn't jump off the shelf and hurt himself.

In the middle is a carrot hay cottage that is buried - you can just see the roof - he used to like digging down and going in there. Plus they can nibble the carrot off the roof.

I can definitely recommend getting a labyrinth house - hammies seem to love those as they're dark inside and have a top entrance as well as a front one, plus different areas for hoarding, nesting, toiletting etc.

The sand bath is on the corner shelf at the back. And there's a coconut hut and a toilet roll tube tunnel. The cheese cube was popular too (yellow triangular toy) but as it's pointy on top I had to make sure it sat under the sputnik so it couldn't be fallen on. And lots of substrate

The labyrinth house I have is the Rodipet smallest one, but the Trixie Leif house is also popular. The trixie one has a solid floor under part of the house which most people knock out so it doesn't get pee soaked and just has substrate under it.

Wow, thank you so much for all your help and ideas. I love the idea of the labyrinth, carrot houses and the cork logs. I definitely think I also need much more bedding in their cages, yours look amazing :0)

Where did you get your logs from, I have seen them before but they looked huge.

Some of the cork logs are enormous! Really long - reptile centres sell them or Amazon. I get the one that Rodipet sells because it's the right length for a hamster cage. Not cheap but adds well to enrichment and doubles up as a ramp.

I had the medium and the large but the large works best as it's the right height for a ramp. Our robo used to love sitting inside it scratching his nails on the inside of it! It might seem unnecessarily large for a hamster tunnel but it's more than a tunnel as provides overhead cover instead of hanging items from the roof.

You can also get cork pieces. I got these ones. Screwed one to the bars as a ledge and used a couple as low level steps (up to the wheel).

Thank you again for all your help. I’m going to make a plan tonight and order the things you recommended.

I’m sure there lots of people on the forum that will benefit from the ideas too ❤️

If you have a look on the “Let’s see your cages” thread there will be other ideas too . Also just to add - lots of things can be made rather than bought. Someone on here made their own labyrinth house out of cardboard - and a shoebox house can be good too or tissue boxes for hidey places etc. Also check out the video - 10 toilet roll toys for Hamsters by Erin’s hamsters - there’s even a hammock made out of toilet roll tubes. The only safe string is sisal string or rope though, if hanging things.

Sorry but I have another question if that is OK. The trixie house is great for value but i have noticed that some people have mentioned nails which is a bit of a worry. I love Rodipet and got my tiny water bowls and sand from there but other things can be quite expensive and I have three cages. I noticed there is another company called Getzoo, have you ever bought anything from them before?
