Default Quikrete POOL FILTER sand

So I searched and also asked about play sand in another thread as the Reptisand I've been using is $$ and we go through it so quickly. I was planning on buying a bag of the play sand to heat and filter this week but as I was cleaning out the cabinet beneath my 120 gallon aquarium, I discovered a bag of Quikrete pool filter sand. I believe their play sand is also considered safe for wildlife habitats and rodents...but I can't find anything on their pool filter sand or how it compares. I have it because it was rated safe for aquariums and it used to be the substrate in the 30 gallon that I took down. Anyone know if the pool filter sand is ok for hammies? Because then I'll use that up before I buy a bag of play sand

Play sand is fine, but pool filter sand is not considered safe. Play sand is very cheap and completely safe as long as you properly rinse, sift, and bake it before using it.

I completely understand not wanting to waste things we buy for many reasons, but perhaps you can find an alternate use for the leftover pool filter sand that doesn't include giving it to hamsters!

My 7 yr daughter has to build a diorama for her school project. Her topic of choice? Syrian Hamsters! I was planning on using the play sand for that but now I guess I'll just use the pool filter sand. I won't mind chucking it afterward since it's a sunk cost. I can always take some cuttings from our bushes and propagate them as well. Have been thinking of doing that anyway. Either way, I'll find uses! I'll head to Lowes this week for the play sand TY!
