Question Good Playpens?

Hello,

My hamster loves time out of her cage, and I've been wanting to get her a playpen, however, I am not sure what would be the best one. Does anyone know of good playpens for Syrians? I would prefer one with no bars because my hamster hates bars so she'd probably just think it's another cage and I don't want that.

Thank you!

Hi, I have a whole bunch of videos on playpens you may be interested in. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...nMw9Ro6wJO-zmU

Big cardboard box ones being the cheapest as it costs nothing but will need replacing as can be eaten through. The bar ones they can escape out of, although some people turn them upside down but I like to interact with my hammies so that was a no for me. I ended up using a big plastic box on wheels - which has been great for me as I can move it from room to room easily if needed. Obviously not for everyone as takes up room and some people want collapsible runs.

Thumbs up Re: Good Playpens?

Okay, thank you! Now I have a few more questions though... What should you put in the playpen (i.e., toys)? How big should it be? When you said you had a big plastic box it occurred to me I could just go to wal mart and get a big plastic tub.

it can be as big as you want, i think mine is something like 100cm x50 cm, its 165litre, a big plastic tub from walmart would be fine. I put all sorts in mine, i swop it around all the time, i have tunnels, some bought some recycled packaging, homemade toys, a wheel, believe it or not they love to jump on and off a wheel that is not in their cage! If you look at some of my videos, you will get an idea of what I put in. Anything they can run through, under or over.

I think you could make one to whatever size you want with planks of wood slotted into each other. That they'd dismantle when not in use.

I bought the Trixie wire panel playpen but my Syrian doesn't really like a playpen so i hamster proofed a room. He's happy to free roam in the room or run around on my bed.....trying to jump of the edge.

You can also use large cardboard boxes and connect them with empty plastic bottles then put things in to explore.

Some hamsters also like to go up and down stairs and can do this supervised.
