Default New Savic Geneva Cage is just so wrong!!!!

I was researching hamster cages and came across this new one called the Savic Geneva, I think it was released in April this year. Pets@home even advertise it as a Syrian Cage. On the Savic Youtube channel they demonstrate it with a syrian hamster!

There Savic PLaza cage being one of the best we can currently buy in the UK, why would they make this!!! 1.) The cage is not big enough for a Syrian or any other breed of hamster. They say it has a big play area!! If I have done the calculation correct this is only 278 square inches, 450 square inches is the absolute minimum for any breed of hamster. 2.) The wheel is not big enough for a Syrian 3.) They don't even show it with enough bedding - a hamster needs minimum 6 inches.

I have written a comment on their video, at the very least could people please go like my comment and give their video a thumbs down.
Comment yourselves if you can take a moment, or contact the company direct as I will be doing.

This makes me so sad.

This is disgusting and got my thumbs down!

They produced a cage to suit people's modern furnishings with total disregard for the hamster's needs and well being!

Trouble is that people will fall for this when they really should buy a hamster ornament instead of a living hamster.

Makes me so mad.

Thank you for pointing this out Luna.

Thanks Ria, I was just so upset and sad about it. How can a company create such a big cage like the Savic Plaza and then come up with this pile of quite frankly, pile of rubbish. (I really want to use stronger words here!!!)

I saw that cage a while ago and assumed it was designed more for gerbils. It's odd that they describe it as a hamster home.

EDIT: Just noticed they have another cage, the "Lugano" which is almost identical except it has a barred shelf instead of plastic. This one is described as a gerbil home.

Yes I noticed that too, and left a comment on that video too.

Thanks everyone for the support. The video now has a few comments and more thumbs down than thumbs up, so hopefully it will make some people think twice. I don't think there is much else I (we ) can do. I Had no response from the company itself, no surprise there really.
p.s. I intend to make a review video on it and put it on my channel, that should come up in the searches when people are looking and hopefully make people think twice too. I was just so upset, because this company went to all the bother of creating the savic plaza and then they throw all that out the window and create this. They have no excuse, they know what a hamster needs/deserve.

The gerbil one isn't so appalling in my opinion. In my experience of gerbils, they care very little about floorspace (within reason) as long as they have enough stimulation in the form of digging substrate and paper and cardboard to chew. The Lugano is 60x30cm, which is the absolute minimum I would be comfortable with for 2 gerbils, though I prefer a little more space. Gerbils don't get "cage rage" like Syrian hamsters do, they are more likely to get bored from lack of stimulation.

For a Syrian hamster though, it's clearly very unsuitable, and very disappointing from Savic.

I did a very quick bit of research and the blue cross recommend min 75cm x40cm, for 2 gerbils. It is my understanding that gerbils should be kept in pairs or more, which is why I left a comment on that video. I know very little about Gerbils which is why I am focused mostly on the syrian cage.
