Default Can anyone recommend a good tank

Hiya guys so I've been thinking of switching my Syrian Hannible Lector to a tank so he can have more room, seen a few people on YouTube who use them. Can anyone recommend a decent size one that would be suitable for hamsters as I'm coming up blank on any that have lids and don't want to risk getting a tank that's not suitable.

Cheers

If you are in the UK have a look on Zooplus. There's the Skyline Kerry Terrarium and the Skyline Marrakesh.

I'd love the Marrakesh if i had the space which unfortunately i don't have.

I use the Skyline Marrakesh, not for a hamster, but for gerbils. It's great. It can be fully disassembled which means I can clean it thoroughly every year or so and it can be stored easily when not in use. The whole lid lifts up allowing excellent access to the whole tank.

I have the 77x47cm model, but Zooplus sell the large model which is 96x47cm.

A tank is great if your hamster is a burrower, but otherwise I can't see the benefit when there are so many very large cages available nowadays. The Ferplast Maxi Duna is the same size as the large Marrakesh, but cheaper.

If your budget can stretch or you can find one second hand, I recommend exo terra. The front opening doors make it great for getting the hamster out and for taming. A top opening tank means you're reaching down from above, replicating a predator.

There are a few options in the Uk. Exo Terra is a great option - very expensive new. Junglepets make custom tanks with ready made lids out of wood and mesh for hamsters. Not too expensive either. But if you're in the Uk there are many options - cages, detolf etc as well.

If you're in the US most people get tanks from Petco in their $ a gallon sale - a 40 gallon breeder tank is popular.

Hi Serendipity,

Do you know if Junglepets are any good? i was all ready to order a custom tank from them for Polski but i just read an awful review and i don't want to waste all that money.

I really want a tank for him but i can't find one the right size, somewhere between a skyline Kerry and Marrakesh to go on our breakfast bar,

Ok. If you’re in the uk then tanks are expensive and I personally think the Kerry terrarium is too small for a Syrian. The Marrakesh is better (the 100cm one) but not particularly deep and quite low for a Syrian wheel.

If you want more space I think you’d be better with the Barney cage from Zooplus. It has the most floorspace of all the cages available in the uk. Except for the eco habitat.

I have it and it’s a great cage with loads of opportunities for enrichment. Tanks look lovely but I don’t like top access - plus you have more interaction with a cage.

If you really like the tank style then the eco habitat on Zooplus could be an option - but the Barney is much cheaper!!

Essex Mum. I don’t know. Junglepets have been recommended in here before. I haven’t heard of any problems. I think the 100cm maxi duna multy would be good for acworktip though. Lovely cage.

I talked to My husband about it and I've ordered the marrakesh for Polski. It gives him plenty of room on the one level and it will look nice on the breakfast bar. I will post a couple of photos when I have it, I have big plans for a natural habitat for him. I'm really excited!
