Question plastic “0” rings on play tubes

So I’ve recently upgraded my hamster to an Aquarium style tank and I’ve got a bendy play tunnel in there at the moment because I’m worried him chewing on the “o” rings of play tubes from a pet shop type cage could be bad for him. He has plenty of toys and things to chew he’s just a naughty boy and will chew everything in sight.

Is it bad if he chews “0” rings they are plastic

Edit/ Thank you everyone for the advice I think I’ll change to some cardboard and wooden ones for a switch around when he has cage cleaned for now he has a bendy tube that he doesn’t chew

Bits of plastic that come off when it is chewed can be sharp, and I've heard it said that they can cause internal damage to rodents. Plastic also isn't degradable when swallowed like paper and, to some extent, wood is. While I haven't actually heard of any confirmed cases of injury or death of rodents from chewing plastic, if you are worried about it, it is probably better to stick to wooden accessories if only for your own peace of mind. Wooden accessories will also generally last longer, and don't look as ugly when chewed as plastic things tend to.

Thank you this is a big help as he does chew and however nice they maybe I think I’ll replace with wood at the moment he’s a bendy tube from the pet store and so far he luckily doesn’t chew that one but he seems to chew o rings from the tunnel they use on pet shop cages so I’m going to throw them out now I know this is not safe, although he chews he doesn’t swallow the plastic but best to avoid the risk and throw them out instead 😊

I'd replace the plastic tubes with cardboard ones as they're fun to play with and safe to chew.
Something like a Pringles tube (washed and minus the end bits) for a Syrian or a kitchen roll tube for a dwarf.

If your hamster is a really serious chewer, and you are in the UK, I highly recommend these cardboard tubes (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-x-Cardb...YAAOSwo4pYmaQq).

They are the insides from rolls of fabric, and are sold by a fabric warehouse online. I have bought them for gerbils and one tube lasts for months, even with the most voracious chewers. They are made of very thick cardboard and they are better value than the pet shop cardboard tubes.
