Default how to keep cages cool

in the uk at the moment is soo hot!! i was wondering how to keep the cage cool?? we have no air con so keeping the room cold is really hard

i’ve got a thermometer on the side of the detolf reading 34 degrees at the moment, and i can imagine it’s not nice for him. i’ve got a few mugs from the freezer in his cage, but he doesn’t sleep in them. is there anything else i can do to keep the cage cool?

Wow, that is hot, i'm currently worried about my room being 29 degrees. I have the curtains drawn shut and 2 fans going. Are you curtains shut? is it cooler at floor level? if so, if your cage isn't at that level already, can you move it. (just saw it was a detolf, so maybe not!)Give your hammy a bit of cucumber to help keep hydrated.

Edison is in an exo terra so in a similar situation to a detolf. I have been rotating ceramic tiles between his cage and the freezer. They may not sit on them but it should help cool the air around it. I've been putting an ice cube on it too to provide cool water as I don't wanna freeze bottles. I've just also made some 'hamster ice lollies'. Ice cubes with a couple of drops of fruit juice and a few with bits of nectarine. Eddie has also decamped from his bed and is curled up (rather adorably) in a random corner. Extra cuteness is that he has taken his crocodile chew with him. I'd normally worry about the move of bed, but who am I to criticize, I slept on the kitchen floor with a wet towel last night. I've also been giving his tank a quick blast with the floor fan when I can to circulate some air.

Anyone with any other ideas? The cool towel trick didn't work for us.

My dwarf hamster too has decided to sleep outside her bed into a corner.
Cool tiles help, even if it's just the cooling of the air near them.
Watery food like fruit and cucumber, good in small amounts to not upset tummys.
Ice packs on the side of the cage to diffuse the cool threw the plastic sides.
Change water daily and add a couple of ice chips to keep chilled.
Ceramic hides are nice too, mine do go inside them for a bit to clean.

For us humans large ceiling fans work a treat. I have three in the house and left the bedroom one on all night. Had no problems sleeping. The lounge one we leave on on a low setting for Henry the hamster who does not seem bothered by the heat. Still sleeps in his nest in his house and when i checked on him he gave me the "what do you want?" look while munching on a piece of something from his hoard.

Eddie sounds so cute to take his whimzee with him to bed.
Do you have a photo of him?

None with his crocodile but he's very tame and happily pops his head up hoping for a treat.
