Question Is this bad?

I know that ripping the roofs of your hamster's house while they're sleeping is mean and all that, but I have a glass jar in my hamsters cage covered in bedding and I was wondering if I can remove the bedding on top of it to look at her while she's in there without being mean as stated earlier? Is doing so the equivalent of removing her roof thus making her feel unsafe?

Thanks in advance, hopefully you understand what I mean!

Huh! That makes me a mean hamster keeper then, lol.

Does your hamster sleep in a glass jar and why do you want to look at her? To check she's alright? Personally, can't see a problem if you don't wake her without a good reason.

I cut my hamster's house roof into two sections and leave the one that covers the nest undisturbed but take the other one off in the morning to check he's alright but offer a small leaf of something nice at the same time, a nose appears very quickly from the nest to take the leaf but the rest of the hamster stays in the nest. I think that's a good enough reason to take part of the roof off briefly and i don't feel mean doing it.

You're not mean!
I mean the people who rip the entire roof off of the hamster while they're sleeping, as an example, just to show them to their viewers on youtube or something. Cause that's not that great.

Yes, she sleeps in a glass jar, why? And yes, I want to check if she's alright.

That's odd to sleep in a jam jar, lol! Usually hamsters like a bottomless sleeping place like a wooden house so they can make a nest and sink it into the substrate. I think its fine to check the hamster is alright and remove the substrate on top in doing so. I need to know that Henry is well before i go to work.

Not really bad, it's important to check that they are alive and well, I always check on my dwarf in the morning before I go out to see if his okay. They may get a bit startled tho and probably wake up if they are sleeping.

I have a flat piece of cork in her cage that she likes hiding under. I put the opening of the jar under the cork and now she sleeps there.
