Question switching to aspen from carefresh??

so i've been considering switching my male syrian from carefresh to aspen?? of some sort i don't know which yet. i like the look of the wood, but also of the care fresh. are there any brands of aspen anyone recommends (i'm canadian). also i would probably split the cage and do some in aspen and some in care fresh so he can have some soft burrowing material. and can i just change it? is there any way i should go about switching to the wood?

is this an alright brand?

I think introducing the aspen to half of the cage is a good idea, and then you can see if your hamster enjoys spending time in that half of the cage or not. Both of my hamsters' cages are split between aspen and kaytee paper bedding, and they seem to prefer nesting in the paper bedding, but they enjoy the aspen too.
You could also maybe mix the two together to make a kind of varied texture, if you want to.
But, as far as I know, there's nothing wrong with switching all at once either, as long as you could switch back if your hamster gets too unhappy with it.

I would recommend putting some carefresh (new) in one half of the cage and putting aspen in the other. Then sprinkling quite a bit of the old bedding on top, and during the next cleaning you could remove that top layer since all the bedding smells like youir hamster. That way they won't get stressed out as much and you'll have the split substrate you wanted.
