Cinnamon's new cage
Cinnamon's in! He seems delighted with his new much more ample surroundings.

Slightly worried that he can climb the bars vertically! Not sure how it would be possible to stop him doing that though... He's quite a daredevil

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
he is a cutie. You may want to put more substrate in the bottom, you can go up to the top of the bottom part of the cage if you can, that way if you are concerned of him climbing and falling he has a softer, well padded landing. I hope he likes his new home, I used to have that cage and I loved it.

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
I think we added a bit more substrate after I took the picture earlier but will add more to cushion him if he falls.
I'm pleased with the cage but the top door broke instantly as the hinges were too tight so the cross bar snapped in two! I've fixed it with some gaffer tape but I'll contact Zooplus tomorrow to get them to replace that.

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
He certainly looks perky and interested there Annoying the top door has broken. They might just send you another cage. He will be a bit skitty and stressed the first few days (even if happy and excited) which might explain the bar climbing. It's all new and strange. Just give him a nice big pile of torn up strips of plain white toilet paper and he'll build himself a cosy nest.
Best not to clean anything for a couple of weeks now - while he settles and scent marks everything. Just spot clean the pee area.

Very cute hammy.
That a very good cage set up, got the same cage and wheel as you.
Sand baths go down well too, got mine half burried under that platform, inch of the tub above the bedding.

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
I'm sure zooplus will replace the cage. I've got the same one.
You could add a coconut hut, £5 from Pets@home. Henry's sits right in the middle of the cage. Hamsters are like hobbits and like round things.
Degus shelves are great too because they screw on the bars and can go anywhere, for example as steps along from the platform leading to the ground. Around £11 for set of 3 at Amazon.
Cinnamon looks happy with the extra space to explore.

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
Shelves are a great idea - he loves climbing and not because he's trying to escape, I don't think!

Re: Cinnamon's new cage
Henry's like that, he likes to sit above ground and climb from shelf to shelf but doesn't climb the bars. The only time he climbed the bars, monkey barred and promptly fell down was the first day i got him. I think he was just trying to check out the new surroundings and Cinnamon may well be doing the same. You may have seen photos of Henry's Alaska cage on the Lets see your cages thread under Housing.
