You won't get overwhelmed, you've done that bit when you became a mother so now you can deal with anything.

I cut Henry's house roof into two sections, the bigger one covers his nest and the smaller ones his toilet. In this hot weather I lift off the small section midafternoon to offer him a small bit of cucumber or watermelon.
Today i peeked in and was faced with a set of balls. Charming.
You can't go wrong and pick a girl by mistake.

Anyway, i gently call his name and usually a nose appears to get the snack and then i put the lid back on.

Lol!

We have the aircon on permanently at 24 degrees Celsius. Will Ragna be hot?

Keep being amazing to Louise. Keep trying to find ways to make her cage amazing. Bedding...what about ordering bedding every 3 months..is that possible? You can then choose Fitch, megazorb or Kaytee cozy and clean - whichever is cheaper.
I'm just doing the bare minimum for my little one, nowhere near as amazing as your set up! From Malaysia? Wow! How do you ensure those logs are safe, etc? I'm sure yours are, but I'd be paranoid that the logs I order won't end up being safe. Any specific link as to where you ordered them from? I'd love to check that out.

Yes, three weeks sounds about right for international shipping. I've ordered some sand and a cooling house for her from a different state... It would be cheaper to order in from a different country actually, but that'll take too long as I really can't wait to give Louise some sand to play around in, and I think she would really appreciate a cooling house as another option for her to cool off in, even though she already has her ceramic cup. I'd be satisfied with that for now and I can slowly order her other toys and stuff internationally. She was sooo adorable, actually asking my husband to pet her head this morning. She snuggled up in a toilet roll after he left, and she looks just like a hamster burrito.

I think you can leave tissue around outside if you want - I left all my tissue outside and she took some into her house. I peeked and found some scrunched balls of tissue inside.

Totally can't wait for Ragna to properly settle down, and for photos of him enjoying his amazing new world. This is so exciting!

I am setting up a YouTube account to post videos of Ragna on the forum. I took a video of him exploring his new domain. It was fascinating but I had to go to sleep as it was late but was able to sit and watch him getting busy.

The first thing he did was explore his house at the top. He then went to the bottom of his cage and guess what? He began burrowing immediately and the potplant holders used as a platform were perfect. He tried to burrow up but there wasn't enough room to get up between the logs etc. I could see that I needed to put more bedding in. I had enough space with the boredom breaker mats I used against the mesh so could put more in.

I left him to enjoy his space and this morning he wasn't in his house. He had peed in his toilet in the house and there were droppings in the corner so he had slept in there a bit. I had layered the bedding with megazorb and Fitch and noticed that outside of two of the potplant holders was megazorb. Ragna had moved to a nest he must have dug out of the potplant holders. I then made a decision to increase the amount of bedding. I took all those bendy bridges I had spare - hahahaha and carried on next to the mats to block up the mesh. I then raised the level of bedding so it's 10 inches for about two thirds of th cage and the rest varies around 8 inches besides the area where the wheel and Arabian commissioned sand bath is(giggle). I did wake him up but he went back into his nest. I made improvements to the house and he now has deeper bedding if he wants to burrow. There is also more room from him to come up if he wants to tunnel up. I will send pictures of the set up this evening and a picture and video of Ragna.

I am worried though that the bedding is too steep for him to climb up. I had the normal log in place - birch - and took away the fences and placed the thin branch across as a foot hold. Where the platform is by the coconut the bedding now comes right under it. I placed his mini water bowl with pebbles on that platform with a bendy bridge to his house. It will make sense when I have sent pictures. Can hamsters get up a slight slope?

The chinchilla sand I use is actually really great. The pee clusters so you can scoop it out. Some people disagree with chinchilla sand bit it's the best I can do. I really cannot believe he used his toilet.

What am I going to do if he stays in the potplant holder? How will O spot clean...eeekkk!

I won't go into detail on how the hamsters were handled as it would upset sensitive individual but if Ragna never comes to my hand or becomes tame that's ok. After witnessing that I am just happy to have saved a soul.

Last concern...I saw some ants in his cage...how do you deter ants?

Oh...Ragna is a skewbald. How cute is that! He is Chestnut brown and white with some lovely markings down his back. I chose another hamster but she was female then another but he got beaten up something fierce and then I spotted Ragna at the back being clever and keeping out of the fights. I got 3 people to check he was a male. The balls weren't big at all...were hard to see...hahahahaha.
