The pattern on the base are simple decal tiles i bought on Amazon, cut to fit and stuck on. I would send you the link if i'd know how. They are from China and i found them by typing "stick on tiles" into the search engine.
I don't think my hamster climbs to the end of the bridge. He climbs from the house roof onto the bridge to go on the degu shelf to get to the sweetcorn treat hanging from the cage roof. He is very food orientated and a bit lazy so i make him work for his treats. Keeps him entertained too. The nutty stick hanging from the cage roof in the right back corner he gets to by climbing from the log stump onto the shelf then onto the higher shelf onto the platform or he takes the shortcut from the tunnel and pulls himself up to the platform. He gets into the haybasket from the house roof and pulls himself up. He needs the exercise because he likes his food. The carrot/cone string at the front is for decoration but is a hamster thing. He's not interested because he can't eat it and wants the real carrot. I know because he was able to get to it in his old cage. He loves his coconut which i leave empty aside from a few sunflower seeds. He likes to sit in there for ages, munching his sunflower seeds, washing and poking his nose out. He has a small clay flower pot and a clay saucer in his cage for his insect mix and fresh food. Good for his claws too. I like different textures but need to get something made from cork to see if he likes it. He doesn't like plastic but is fine with the plastic wheel which i clean now and again. He seems to get sweaty paws from running but knows when i've wiped it because he spends ages sniffing it. I cover the top of his cage with a sheet of card when its sunny and in the evening when i have the light on. People do different things with their cage set ups and i don't think there's a right or wrong as long as the hamster is happy, the basic requirements are met and the environment is safe and stimulating. Not any different from our own homes really.
Thanks for the great explanation. Do I need to cover the top at night? There will be a lamp on above the cage.

I don't think a cage needs to be covered but i got the card sheet to keep sun off or the overhead light in the evening.
Why do you want a lamp on above the cage?
My hamster would hate that. He is at his most active when all lights are off and we've gone to bed. Dark, quiet and his own company, that's what he likes best but he's not exactly the most sociable of hamsters, lol.

The lamp is above the cage because we donít have much space and that lamp serves to light up our living room corner. It will be turned off late evening and during the night.

Oh i see. I misunderstood and thought the lamp would be on for the hamster!
I don't know the answer to your question but i have moved my lamp away from the cage. My ceiling light is dim but my hamster is very nocturnal, gets up around 22.00 and i find that when i cover the top of his cage to keep the light off he's more likely to wander around his cage but that's my Henry. All hamsters are different. I read somewhere that hamster eyes are sensitive to light and a bright light can hurt their eyes. Someone on this forum will know the answer to your question.

After reading what you had to say I went back and stood in front of the cage. We are going to place thin board, thick enough to have the lamp on but not chunky on the top and attach it to the back so no movement can be seen from the back...it's against the wall but a small edge is sticking out. That should block out most of the light then it's dark when we got to bed. I'm am worried thought as the kitchen light may shine right on the cage area. Will see how it works out once my hamster is in and settling.

I think a lot of it is trial and error and depends on the hamster. I had mine since March, moved his cage once because the original spot turned out to be drafty, he's on his 4th wheel, the first two were too small and one he didn't like, he's in his 2nd cage as first one was too small for a Syrian and 2nd house because he outgrew his first. Then i had this toilet carry on and eventually found out that my hamster wanted an en suite ceramic toilet! Unlike you, i hadn't done my homework so serves me right, lol. Also, it took me a while to get to know hamster Henry, his likes and dislikes.

I have no doubt that despite trying to have my hamsters in a row...couldn't help myself...lol...my hamster will have me arranging all the furniture and replacing things. I so adore your cage layout. Lovely!

The cage looks very neat and tidy. Well done! Must have been a fiddly job and hard on the fingers.
