Hello,

Was wondering if these plushy products are safe for hamsters.

Unfortunately no - not in the cage. Hamsters can chew to take the nice soft stuff for nesting material and some of these things contain foam filling etc. Also any material could be ingested and cause a blockage or bits of cotton thread wrap round a leg and cut the blood supply off.

You can make hammocks out of an egg box and sisal ripe though (sisal ripe is safe to chew) but also ring and chain hangers can cause injuries so they’re also best avoided.

Some brands are ok. If you’re in the uk Fuzzbutt’s make very good fleece “snooze cubes”. I have one but only use it out of the cage where I can monitor things. Sometimes with a very old hamster who doesn’t chew much then a fleece hammock in the cage can be ok. But not any cotton type things. You can also get grass hammocks which are safe to chew.

For nice soft nesting material the best thing is a big pile of torn up strips of plain white toilet paper. They pouch it and take it to the nest and can make nice cosy nests with it.
