Default Is my 29g tank set up okay for my dwarf hamster?

Hey guys,

I just need some feedback on Milo's tank set up. I've been seeing online that the recommended tank size is at least a 40g breeder. However, I got this 29g tank on sale when I first got my little buddy and he's been doing okay in it so far.

I've tried my best to give him as much room and things to do in his tank as I can, but I am wondering if it's too crowded for a dwarf hamster.

I made him a maze box house so he can run on th top of it and he does bury himself underneath the bedding below.

I guess I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do to help him be as comfortable as possible. If you guys have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

No I wouldn’t say it’s too crowded. For the tank size that it i think you’ve set it up fine.

But i would agree the minimum size should be around 40 gallons for a dwarf. So if you could upgrade that would be good. I find that sized tank too narrow really so you can’t set it up too well.

Also keep an eye on the wheel size - think it’s the 6.5” diameter one but dwarfs do better on an 8 inch one, so an upgrade is worth thinking about.

Edit - Should have added while he’s in this cage I’d fill the cage right up with bedding. At least 6-8 inches for a dwarf preferably more, so he can burrow.

Hi, for the space available, I think you've done a great job with the set up and your hamster looks lovely. Clever little thing is already using the loo. Milo looks happy enough. I'm very interested in cage set ups because I'm looking into upgrading my hamster's cage. My Syrian hamster seems happy enough in his 70cmx45cm cage but I know now that it should be bigger. Did you make his house yourself?

I think ot looks like a lovely home for you're hammy. Really like the maze house you've made yourself and your water dispenser looks interesting!

Hi again, i really like these little steps made from wooden disks. Did you make that yourself too? If yes, did you glue them or pin them together?

Yes, I did make his maze house and steps myself! I live in the US so I went to Michael's which is my local crafts/ hobby store and I was able to buy the materials there. His wooden steps are hot glued together, and he enjoys climbing them a lot.

As for his maze house I was actually inspired by the Rodipet maze homes that I saw online. Unfortunately, purchasing from them would cost quite a bit of shipping for me, so I thought I would make one myself.

If you live in the UK, I'm sure you'll have an easier time purchasing from them. Here's their website :https://www.rodipet.co.uk/houses/rodipet-maze/

Hey! I took your advice and I've put in more bedding for the time being. When I get the chance I'll definitely be upgrading his tank
