Default Anyone with experience making a raised roof for the Detolf

Hi guys,

As the title suggest I'm looking for anyone with experience in making a raised roof for the Detolf. I have it all set up and waiting but want to get a proper raised lid sorted first so he can have a nice big wheel and a nice deep layer of hemp, etc.

I know of this one but he's pretty vague on the details and measurements - Naturnahe Hamstergehege: Detolf mit Aufsatz für Goldhamster

If anyone has any ideas would be great, plan on heading to B&Q tomorrow or Thursday.

Cheers.

I don't think many people use a raised lid, though having a detolf myself I would definitely recommend one. The kind of lid you go for is going to depend on whats available to you, are you going to use the semi-circular pieces in the example or go for something square?

There are £5 BESTA IKEA shelves which would be around the right width if you cut one in half for two square-ish end pieces for example. Do you have a table saw or are you good enough with a hand saw to cut something like this in half accurately? You could also use pine board but this is more difficult to cut again.

Personally I would be making two separate lids to keep the weight down, they'll be awkward enough to lift out of the way as it is without making it one huge piece.

I wouldn't head to B&Q before you have a clear idea of what you're doing tbh.

Hi, I forgot to update this but I did in fact finish my two raised lids a while ago! They have been fantastic. Thanks for your advice.

Sorry for my poor photography. I am also just waiting on my background paper and a large rodipet order now to fluff out the cage nicely

Hi,
I was the same wanting more head height for my detolf. Being rubbish at making stuff and also not wanting to pay out a lot , I choose to attach an old cage lid to the detolfs inside wire, as well as the three shelves. The shelves I attached using self adhesive cable clips.
You could even add two lids, and one glass shelf between if you wamted to.

I'll pop some pics to show what I managed to come up with

I still need to get a platform and some hanging bits, but thats another reason I like this way of doing it. Instead of it being an empty raised space, it is another level for my hamster to play and explore in. 😊

Sorry I know you asked a different question, but just thought I'd share a different option 🤗
