What was the problem with the other wheel fitting. Most 28cm wheels should fit - trixie wooden wheel, plastic trixie wheel, wodent wheel. The only one I’m not 100% on is the silent runner but even that one should. Unless you mean it was too big to attach to the bars in which case you’d need it standing on the base.

I tried the pets at home medium wheel but it would not fit as the base of cage sticks out slightly more than bars so would not secure properly.

I don't like the p@h wheels. I had the same issue with the medium for a dwarf and it just doesn't spin nicely when attached to the bars even when it does fit. Rattles like anything too. It's slightly better on a stand but again, it really rattles.

I have a vary high opinion of the trixie wheels, the 28cm one should fit in the criceti and it's got a narrow running surface so it's taking up less width as well. It's free standing which makes it a bit more flexible for positioning. Also cheaper than the p@h ones; the large is £17? Nah lol. I've had a trixie for 4 years now and I'm only just replacing it which is one heck of a lifespan.

Do the free standing ones not fall over in the cage?

They could pull or push them over I suppose but the Trixie has never shown any signs of falling when they're just running in it. I slip a bendy bridge in between the stand and the wheel (small bridges fit, not the larger thicker ones) for stability and to attempt to stop substrate building up underneath it. You could use a slate, or just a flat piece of wood or whatever you have lying around if you were worried.

I reckon the best wheel for that cage - and space saving is the 11" wodent wheel attached to the bars - then you have no issues with the stand and the curved base it is also the most compact of the 11" wheels so doesn't stick out too far. It actually spins well like that (with a few cable ties to keep the stand stable on the bars). I had the larger wobust wheel hung upside down like this and it worked well. As the Criceti is top opening you can't really hang it from the roof but you can attach the stand to the side bars instead.

The main issue is wodent wheels are hard to get hold of. Sometimes petplanet have them - otherwise Rodipet sell them but there is the postage cost on top of the price.

Have a look at this thread. The last photo is my wobust wheel attached to the bars. You do the same thing but instead of the stand being outside on top, it is roundthe side bars. So you slot the spindle through the rear of the cage bars and stand goes round the corner and sits up against the side bars where you attach it with cable ties.

suspending wheels

Advantages: Frees up floor space and substrate under the wheel. Wheel sits closer to the bars so makes more room generally. They spin better attached to the bars. They are more stable attached to the bars.

There's a photo of one attached to the side bars on this page - two small photos near the bottom. The left photo shows the stand on the side of the cage, the right photo shows the stand on top ofthe cage.

GliderGossip - How do I hang a Wodent Wheel?

Seems petplanet have discontinued them so only rodipet sells them now. Choose your colour - they have lots. The wheels last a long time too.

I have the Criceti 15 for one of my hybrids, I use the 21cm wooden trixie wheel for her.

If the medium p@h wheel isnt fitting on the bars, you probably just need to move it higher so its not hitting against the base. If you have a good amount of substrate your hammie can reach the wheel still though thst wheel’s too small for most hams. If your ham cant run with s totally straight back you’ll need to upgrade to a 21-28cm Wheel depending on species.

I dont think you could attach a 28cm wheel to the bars without the base issue since its not as tall as some cages so its best to get a free standing wheel
