I don't know of many US substrates but you can't go wrong with the white Kaytee clean & cosy.

Re: Best bedding in the U.S.?
Kaytee Clean & Cozy and Carefresh are both great, but I know that definitely the latter is expensive (and maybe the former too, I'm UK here). Ordering online is useful (if you can get free postage as the size/weight of bedding makes it too expensive otherwise) - Aspen woodshavings and hemp substrates are good but difficult to find in the US if they're not online. Maybe have a look to see if Zooplus ship to you because they have hemp bedding.
In addition to a main substrate you can have areas of sand or soil which may be useful if you have to fork out lots for bedding. Litter training your hams will hopefully reduce the amount you have to remove, too.

Re: Best bedding in the U.S.?
The Kaytee Clean & Cozy is good. Carefresh, too, although not everyone shares that view. Surprisingly, Premier Pet Uber was great, although the cost was considerably less. I bought it one day because I couldn't take a subway train to any of the stores that sell the other two. However, I prefer the longer commute and expense for the other two because my current hamster burrows more now than when the Uber was in the cage.

Re: Best bedding in the U.S.?
Boxo used to be popular - you can buy it in bulk from Walmart I believe. It's a cheap way of having paper based substrate. I believe it's quite soft cardboard based. You could maybe mix some Kaytee Clean and Cozy in which it for variety and to save money on the Kaytee. I prefer the Kaytee Clean and Cozy to Carefresh, which not only is expensive, but I didn't like the texture and found it had a fine dust.

Re: Best bedding in the U.S.?
Kaytee Clean & Cozy is my go-to, I order it in bulk bags off of Chewy.com it's much cheaper than buying it anywhere else, plus I end up buying enough of it that I get free shipping. I used to use Carefresh but I've switched as I really think that Carefresh is dusty (even though the bag says it isn't) and honestly the Kaytee is softer. I use exclusively Kaytee for Pip, and I mix substrate for my gerbils so at least I know it's good if you feel the need to mix a few different kinds!

Re: Best bedding in the U.S.?
Yingyang told me he likes the Kaytee but I told him I bought a bag of CareFresh and he has agreed to give it a try. A 69L bag of it is $15 on Amazon.

Kaytee Clean & Cozy and Carefresh are both easy to obtain in North America. Its one of the only things I'll buy at Pet Smart. They have a good selection of colours and bag sizes in both brands.

Yes, I'm going to get it at a local PetSmart, they sell it for $12.99 for 49.2L. or on amazon for $15, free shipping
