Default NurturePro Tofu Cat Litter--is this safe for hamsters?

Hi everyone! I bought my Syrian the tofu cat litter brand above thinking it would be safe since tofu is safe for hamsters. I can't shake off the worry though so I decided to join this group to get answers to put my mind at ease. I'm new at this so really need all the help I can get. Thanks in advance to those who will reply!

Hello and Welcome to Hamster Central.
Unfortunately this wouldn't be safe to use for hamster although Tofu is safe you don't want your hamster to be eating too much as it will upset diet and Tofu is high in protein which too much can cause kidney problems. When I also research the bedding I found that one of the ingredient in this litter is citric acid which isn't safe for hamsters.

What country are you located in? As in the UK fitch paper bedding is very popular on the forum.

Finally...a reply!!! Thank you SKB Hamsters I couldn't shake off the worry so I got rid of what was in Koochi's aquarium and gave the unused Tofu Cat Litter away to someone who has a cat. I'm so relieved I made the right decision. I'm in the Philippines and fidding the right Stuff for hamsters is so difficult! Another challenge is bathing sand Only scented ones are available in stores and online sellers in PH.

Can you get children's play sand? It needs to be baked in the oven to dry & sanitise it but is fine to use.

Hello Koochi, there's another Filipino/na here which I think is SaltyPickles, I think she might be able to help you.

You should join PHOS group too.

Cat litter isn't suitable for hamsters unfortunately - especially the granule type. If you're stuck you could just tear up lots of plain white toilet paper and use that

Hi Cypher! I have been trying to find play sand for a month now. Even the biggest hardwares do not have them here. I sent Zoo Med Philippines an inquiry where I can get Reptisand but I haven't heard from them yet. Went to a popular Pet Center called Cartimar but they also have very little hamster stuff. They were even out of stocks on hamster wheel but at least I got aspen bedding and hay Also asked help from a friend whose kid goes to Kidzoona Play Center to inquire where they get their play sand or if they can sell some to me. Taking care of Koochi requires a lot of resourcefulness here

Thanks for the suggestion Serendipity 7000! Will do that until I find something better. If i use tissue, do i need to change it daily? Allocated a huge space for this in Koochi's home thinking it would be good to give him different substrates.

Is pine pellet cat litter also bad? Those are quite common here. Saw Erin's Animals use it but I just wanna make sure.

It's called the Philippines Hamster Owner Society in Facebook, but I don't think I'm allowed to tell that here though...
