Softacard reviews
Hello there
I am currently using aubiose with a bit of kaytee clean and cosy. Previously used fitch which was great until they bumped up their prices.
So I was wondering if anyone uses softacard, I mainly want to know whether it's good for supporting tunnels.
Thanks!

Re: Softacard reviews
I have recently switched to using softacard for my hamsters although currently using it alongside Fitch at the moment. I have stopped using Fitch for the same reason if them increasing the price again.
I am really quite impressed with softacard - very good quality, almost as soft as Fitch and my Russian (who has 3 paws and a stump) and my Syrian are enjoying digging in the softacard . I don’t know the full capability of holding tunnels as using it alongside Fitch at the moment plus have only been using it for 10 days now - but the tunnel entrance to my russian’s nest is holding very nicely.

Brilliant, thank you! This is really helpful as I have a Syrian, Russian dwarf hybrid and a robo.
It’s a shame about the fitch as it is a really good substrate but I need a cheaper alternative. Looks like I shall be trying softacard

Re: Softacard reviews
I'm thinking of buying a bale for my maternity/hospital cages.

Re: Softacard reviews
Would it be good for Russian dwarf who has sensitive skin? He's currently losing fur so I am not sure if it's an allergic reaction to the aubiose or something else.

Its worth a try! I used a similar homemade substrate for a past russian with severe allergies

Yes, it is. I believe that the makers of Finacard had problems with sourcing the supplies necessary to make Finacard but managed to source virgin egg box containers instead so they have replaced Finacard with Softacard.
I bought some last month and have used it in both a maternity set up and in Juno's cage as a comparison. Juno quite liked it but we found that it didn't hold up to her burrowing as well as the megazorb that she's used to did however Embers was able to build a decent size nest with it in her maternity cage. It was relatively dust free although I wouldn't have said it was as soft as Kaytee Clean and Cozy which is my usual choice for hospital cages.

Re: Softacard reviews
I sent in an enquiry about delivery to Northern Ireland and although it's hella expensive (more so than zooplus who I usually get hemp from) they did give me some v good info on how to save £5 going through ratrations. I might spend the extra money just in appreciation of good customer service lol

Re: Softacard reviews
So after using softacard for a couple of weeks now I can’t say I am a fan. It’s good for odour control but I don’t think it’s great at holding burrows even when I mix it with aubiose. Also I found it to be quite dusty, maybe it was a iffy batch?
The search continues for a substrate that is good value and holds burrows
