Default Best bedding?

What bedding do you use?
Why?
And what is it made of?

I'm looking for a new bedding, I used to use aubiose, then care fresh but I'm sure there are better choices

I really like Kaytee Clean and Cosy, its paper bedding and its a lot less dusty than carefresh and fitch. I find it goes a lot further than carefresh as well.

I have recently switched to Softacard - after having issues getting Fitch and the recent price rise I thought I would try Softacard out and I’m very pleased with it as well as both my hamsters too!

Softacard card is made from unused egg boxes. It is fairly soft (same feel as both carefresh and Fitch). And have very minimal dust and is very absorbent. I am very happy with it and my hamsters like it too!

Link to my Syrians, Liquorice’s thread - as I posted photos of her digging in it plus can see the comparison with Fitch(very similar to carefresh) - All About My Liquorice

I've used Fitch for a long time and am very happy with it Our hamsters like it. I find it has no dust at all, which is good! I've been reluctant to try anything else since as I'm happy with it. It has got a bit more expensive recently but still works out reasonable for a 10kg bale. I have tried Carefresh once but found it had very fine dust and didn't like it. I also tried Hemp bedding from Zooplus once - that is also popular but unfortunately I seemed to be allergic to it.

I use megazorb but it works best when mixed with other beddings really as it's dustier than others. I use a bit of it with Hugro hemp and sometimes hay at the minute and it's a good mix. Clean and Cozy is also a nice bedding, especially for in the nesting areas as it's very soft. My robo prefers using C&C than tissue to nest in. I thought it was nicer than fitch but not used fitch in a while, and it is miles better than carefresh.

I did send for some Kaytee Clean and Cosy to try and to keep in for emergencies in case Fitch is ever out of stock. I think it's ok but still prefer Fitch. I sent for the natural one and two of the coloured ones. Haven't tried the natural one yet but thought the coloured one had a slight "ink" smell - which will probably wear off when it's aired - but Newt didn't like it! So I think I'd prefer the white one.

I like the kaytee clean & cosy white (never tried the colours) it's softer but a bit less substantial than fitch so I still use fitch as my main substrate, neither are dusty.
I have some softacard & it does look good but I'm not sure I would want to use it alone.

I use Megazorb in most of my cages and have done for a couple of years and it seems to suit my hamsters well and it seems to be able to go longer between clean outs than some other substrates. Some people have said that it has a funny smell but from talking to others who have used it, it seems to depend on how it has been stored at the supplier.

I use shavings for my diabetic Chinese as she needs frequent clean outs and anything else is just not cost effective for her and I use Kaytee Clean and Cozy in hospital and maternity cages as it's soft and is relatively dust free. I used to use Fitch but found that whilst the price was increasing, the quality wasn't always as consistent as it used to be but I know others find that it suits them an their hamsters well so it does depend on what is best for you and your hamster.
