Default Wheels in Detolfs! agh help!

Hi,

So I was wondering if a 33cm tall Trixie (are there any other better yet still fairly priced wheels?) wheel would fit in a Detolf? Can I have a little bit of bedding and still have it spin ok? I've seen people put 12-inch wheels in but with a tall lid and my DIY skills are down the drain so I would have no clue and have no tools to build that. I've seen flying saucers instead but I'm worried a 12-inch would take up too much space. How are these?

Also because you can't choose a colour in the Trixie wheels I was wondering how and what paints brands to use if I wanted to change the colour. I've seen ErinsAnimals do this with a Trixie wheel but I don't think Erin mentioned her method. Any suggestions?

Don't be afraid to say I should just ditch the Detolf and go for a different cage. I'm still considering either the expensive living world eco green, zoo zone 2 or savic plaza.

Thanks for any replies I know I kinda asked a lot of questions so sorry about that!

I'd get the Savic Plaza and the silent runner wheel and screw the wheel to the bars But if you've got your heart set on a detolf then it is an issue getting a wheel to fit. I am not sure if the trixie wheel fits or not. I know the 11" wodent wheel does.

Thanks, Serendipity7000 I'm leaning away from the Detolf as the idea of it warping and smashing from the bedding scares me!

You’d have the same height problem with the ZZ2 unfortunately and the eco habitat is always out of stock (I think they might be discontinued???). I’d go with the Savic Plaza over the ZZ or detolf.

If you really want a detolf but don't want more diy than a lid, then it would be a case of being creative with a wheel. Either a 27cm wodent wheel (expensive as you;d need to order it from Rodipet in Germany). Or bending the stand on a Trixie wheel, or attaching a wheel to and end panel by drilling a hole through the end panel (the wheels aren't too tall when they're not on the stand).

Apparently the trixie wheel does fit - see this thread

New detolf and wheel

This is an expensive option but may suit

Rodipet do a 27cm silent wheel. And it is the inner diameter that is 27cm (outer diameter is 28cm) so it's a good sized wheel. It is also height adjustable. On the lowest height setting it is 30.5 cm tall so would easily fit. If you have a bit more height available you can adjust the height up a bit.

I have this weel for our robo in the 21cm size. It's a great wheel. It has the cork running surface. I plastikoted the whole thing, including the running surface and it's still in great condition 18 months later and doesn't smell. Wipe clean.

You could have a sand area at that end. But it is expensive and there is about £8 postage on top.

The wheel attaches to the stand with a bolt that goes through the slot in the stand and a wingnut on the back of the bolt (which is how it's height adjustable). When I moved our robo to a cage, the wheel stand didn't sit well on the curved base and took up too much room in the cage due to the curved base, so I took the wheel off the stand and it screws to the bars with the wingnut very well! So it would fit in any cage or tank.
