Bright Moon, I use Tesco's Carousel Lets PLay sand it's £2.50 for 10kg and if not this you can get the Argos sand which is £5 for 15kg. There are plenty of safe brands but I've had the best reviews from these.

Thanks cypher for sending the link about rodipet sand. I'll give the WitteMolen as you suggested a try.

Some people say that their hamsters have even died from this!? If this sand isn't safe, can you recommend any particular brands as I don't know where else to look?
Hi this is my first post here but I was sceptical about it being dangerous too because it had been completely fine up until this point but I got a new tub today and it was disgustingly dusty. It would surely give a hamster a respiratory infection. Here’s a link to a video here https://twitter.com/hamvibes/status/...490752000?s=21 So whilst the problems were mostly in America it seems the new batch is now available in the U.K. (I’m in scotland) which is awful. I definitely would not recommend using it at all because it’s not worth it

I also bought some today, hammy scratched in it and I couldn’t see her for the dust cloud, mines going back with my complaint, definitely wouldn’t want to put my face near that so am not going to put my hamster in it either.

I have found the tiny friends farm to be quite dusty. I've tried fine bird sand but its got a funny smell to it. I don't have the bag for it so I cant see what's in it (I cant even remember the packaging so I cant find it online ) I've heard some people using play sand and some people have used reptile sand. The plain no colour reptile sand that's not got calcium in it.

wow, that is dusty. Mine has never been like that.
I think Serendipity (?) wrote to them and they said the formula hasn't changed. Was that on this thread? or maybe another one.

The tiny friends sand really isn't very good at all since they changed it although I haven't used it for quite some time now I didn't find it that dusty.
You could use play sand (bake it in the oven to dry it first) my sand of choice is this one from Rodipet.

Ive just twittered supreme, here a link attached you will see a video of me pouring it, the video doesn't show all the dust. I haven't used the product before so can't make any judgement on if its changed but I can't use this! my throat and nose is sore from just video'ing this clip, bought at pets at home yesterday. So you can decide for yourself if its something you want to use. https://twitter.com/sherrenscott/sta...71111601713153

Looks like the community is finally seeing evidence in the UK of this product going down in quality. I'd love to be able to say I'm surprised but I'm really not, and I was honestly expecting something like this to come eventually.

Seeing how dusty it is and then reading that it was actually dustier than that set off all the alarms in my head. That is not something any animal with a delicate respiratory system needs to be around, and it isn't good for humans either - especially those with allergies, asthma, etc. I know my allergies feel attacked just looking at it!

We must be getting different batches here because i've never had any issues. I pour sand slowly to avoid dust and then let it settle before i put it in their habitats. I think dry sand is always slightly dusty, its the nature of the beast but have never noticed any dust when my hamsters dig and roll in it.

Some hamsters originate from dessert regions so i wouldn't have thought that they are genetically that sensitive to a little dust plus they are burrowers and dry earth can be dusty too.

I could be completely wrong here and maybe too relaxed in my attitude but as long as my hamsters don't sneeze and enjoy their sand i can't see a problem.
