Cage reccomendations
Hi guys
As most of you know I own 2 hybrid dwarfs (I assume both are hybrids. Pepper came from a petshop (although they say they get their animals from reputable breeders. I'm still not sure of this) and Poppy, a rescue whose origins are a bit foggy.) and their cage setups are temporary at the moment.
I'm a university student who's working part time so I want to save up for proper cages for the two little ones. As such I'd like to have some reccomendations for cages which are suitable for their breed.
I know you can make cages out of storage bins, but frankly with my studies and job I wouldn't have time to DIY a cage out of bins for them, as well as most of the storage bins I see in the stores taper to the bottom, making them very small.
We also don't have an ikea here in South Africa where I can get things like the detolf to make a cage out of.
I prefer bar cages (especially in Poppy's case as she likes interacting with you through the bars of her cage and gets stressed if you try and interact with her from the top) but would appreciate any reccomendations even if it isn't a bar cage.
This is just to get an idea what to look for and save up for, so that they can have a great little home.
PS. I am not going to house them in the same cage.

Re: Cage reccomendations
It's a bit difficult to make suggestions not knowing what might be available for you, I just did a quick google & couldn't see much as most seemed very small.
What you want to aim for if you can find it is something around 80x50cm, not too tall to avoid bar climbing accidents, up to about 40cm is usually ok, bar spacing needs to be no more than 1cm.
The hamster heaven (used without all the tubes & penthouse) is a an example to give you an idea of the kind of size you would be looking at. Accessories aren't up to much with most cages so you might want to make your own shelves etc which is easy enough.
If you can link to any cages you're considering it would be easier to comment on how suitable they might be.

Re: Cage reccomendations
I know. The hamster cage range here in South Africa is tiny.
There is a large petshop in a town a few hours away from me which apparently has a great selection of cages but they do not keep a list of their stock online.
I also found this website, but don't know if there is anything suitable https://za.miscota.com/small-animals...hamsters?pag=6

Re: Cage reccomendations
There's nothing suitable there, the only one that's 80x50 looks like a guinea pig cage (not that it would be suitable for that either!) & is too tall with very wide bar spacing.
Hopefully you'll be able to find something better in the shop.

Re: Cage reccomendations
The duna multy is on your first link and that is an ideal size - not sure how expensive it is via money conversion. It is a popular perspex tank style cage for dwarf hamsters - however - it is top opening and not a barred cage.

Re: Cage reccomendations
I recommend the Duna Multy or Ferplast Criceti 15 for a Russian dwarf.
