Detolf Advice
I was recently informed that I had to line the end edges of the Detolf with sealant. Absolutely, no shade to the Detolf but I was just wondering if that was an anomaly and thinking about other people's experiences. Probably still going to apply it just to be safe.
In terms of the lid, what are the proper measurements because I've heard people say ErinsAnimals' ones are a bit off.
Finally, is there any other pieces of advice you have about using the Detolf cage because it would be deeply appreciated.

Re: Detolf Advice
I hope it is - but like I said I’ve had the same issues with two detolfs now. Remember most people don’t fill it up with 7-8 inches of bedding either, as well as that less dense substrates like clean and cozy are often used too all of which will help prevent bowing. Most people don’t seem to have issues. Glass cracking because of the bedding however has definitely been a reported issue. So at the end of the day it’s entirely up to you whether you want to take the risk or not.
The dimensions in that tutorial are incorrect, I’ve made two lids about 77.5cm long I think and the width will depend on the width of the wood you use if you use regular straight cuts.

Thanks, mangoandmimi
Yeah, I am planning to use straight cuts as it seems simpler.

Re: Detolf Advice
I applied sealant to mine, especially focussed on the ends where the glass went into the wood as the last thin you need is pee soaking into the crevices.
I would also make a lid regardless of how deep or shallow you have the substrate. I had a Syrian who escaped several times from the detolf despite having shallow bedding at the time. Just make sure you measure at several different points to get accurate measurements

Re: Detolf Advice
I think most people just leave the detolf as it is - especially for a syrian who uses a litter tray and has plenty of substrate. I posted on your other thread about the lid I am sure the end wood pieces are wipeable.
