I'm sure he'll soon be tame - time and patience The tube and treat works well - I used to then put the other end of the tube in a hamster ball so they walk straight into the ball - then pop the lid on and then (carefully) carry the ball to the dry bath and put it down in the bath and take the lid off. I'd leave the ball in the bath as our hammy used to hop back in it to tell me he'd had enough after a while. I'm not keen on hamster balls for exercise but they are useful for transporting a hamster to another room!

The silent runner will probably be too tall for the 10 gallon tank so you may need to devise a temporary raised lid for the tank - otherwise your hammy may escape with no lid! Just wondering if it may be easier or cheaper to get an 8" wodent wheel for now and then upgrade the wheel when you get the new cage sorted. You can always sell it again and it's cheaper than the 9" silent runner?

i actually ended up deciding on the 9" because he fits well in the 8" and if i get the 12 it won't fit in his current tank.

The wheel I have is a 12" Trixie and it's very quiet (as long as it doesn't knock against the side of my bin cage!)

It's got to the point where I can't get to sleep unless I can hear my hamster scrabbling around! I imagine it's a similar feeling you get when you're a new parent...
