Default moving cages

hi!!
I am lucky enough to be getting the ikea detolf soon!! I’ve never moved a hamster before so i’m not sure the best way to go about it. I know that I should use all the bedding from her cage, but i’m not sure what else I should be aware of. It would be great if you could give me some advice!
thanks!!

Default Re: moving cages

I think probably the most important thing is not to clean for a couple of weeks at least before & after the move (apart from spot cleaning pee) so all the substrate, wheel, toys etc smell familiar.
If you can make a familiar layout too it helps I think but isn't essential.
It can take them a while to adjust to the change so best not to interfere or be tempted to move things around unless something really doesn't seem to be working out & just let your ham settle in.
Some people let their hams play in the new cage a few times before the move but I never have, you can't put all their stuff in so I don't think it really makes a difference to them getting used to it tbh.
